Best stuff first, safe mode etc. - an important note
Please hear me out
Tumblr brings out ever a new filter, be it safe mode for all, be it best stuff first and what have you. Initially, the uproar is big, and that's good, like this many people become aware of the negative effects these filters are causing and can switch it off.
But what happens then? What happens after months or years, after new people join this site? They won't be aware of the issues those filters bring with them, if no one is talking about it anymore. And since the filters switch on automatically, the probability is big that the newcomers will keep it switched on. To the disadvantage of all of us.
So what can we do against it? Luckily, there is one simple solution. We mustn't forget about it. We can spread the knowledge about it. Heck, let it become the new inside joke of Tumblr that the first thing you have to do if you join is to switch off all the filters. Let it become a new rule of Internet savoir vivre, let it become a meme, do whatever. Just don't let it die.
If we grow silent, they ultimately win.
