Hey this is the artist of the JYL piece referencing our lady of tears from her main blog. I appreciate your insight a lot and I can see how using catholic imagery like that would and will make ppl uncomfortable, which was not my intention at all, nor was my intention to 'change' or 'westernise' Chinese characters and a genre that loans so heavily from chinese mythology, taoism etc. (1/?)
I definitely made a mistake in not considering how this would come across, and I realise that it can upset people on both sides. I have gone to art school in western countries and despite not being religious, have always found religious imagery fascinating and have used it a lot in my art. I am very aware of western colonisation and its effects over the world and should've considered this more (2/?)
A part of me, as a westerner is also very careful not to include things from chinese mythology outside of the series cause I feel like my research is not complete and it would cause upset, which is the last thing I want to do, so I went for imagery I am familiar with and clearly it was a mistake. I'll be deleting the post cause I can see now that it was in poor taste even though it was purely abt the aesthetics for me and done w good intensions.
Sorry about the multiple asks, I have no other way of really giving my explanation. I am not upset at you, nor am I upset at anyone who finds my piece to be in poor taste so I hope you don't take this negatively, I just wanted to give an explanation. You may feel free to publish these if you so wish. I think your post was really well explained and it is always important to have this feedback, sometimes you're blind to your own mistakes :)

for the record again, I liked the piece in question a lot and didnāt take issue with it, so Iām admittedly sad to see it go >< but!! iām also really touched that you spent the time to think about the piece in context and make a different choice than I would have. thank you!! š
