hey!! i just finished the finale vod and i thought i’d share some of my thoughts :]

in my opinion, this was the perfect finale. it had just the right balance of action and emotion. everything was thought out and just made sense, loose ends were tied up and we finally found out dream’s plans, his motivations.

the buildup from the fight on the mountain to dream cornering tubbo and tommy giving up, painfully throwing his items into a hole. tubbo and tommy following dream to what they believe will be their death, tommy constantly telling tubbo to stay close to him. 

when they were underground and tommy was still desperately trying to hold onto optimism, but tubbo had given up, their roles reversed. tubbo had accepted death, he wanted tommy to go on. 

“without you, who am i?” 

“yourself.”

(the hall of attachment reveal will remain one of the most unsettling things on the server to me.)

the nostalgic feeling as you hear punz, the spy, come to the rescue, with everyone else in tow. the joy i felt when they all cornered dream, and tommy and tubbo ran to the discs, finally, finally, things were looking up.

hope, and confidence, was restored. the absolutely beautiful parallel of tommy telling dream to throw his items in a hole will be engraved in my mind for weeks. and when it was revealed that dream was the one who blew up the community house, everyone realized who exactly dream was, and the only motivation he had was power. he didn’t want things to go back to how they were, he didn’t want a fair set of rules, he wanted power.

the callback of tommy and tubbo screaming “SUCK IT, GREEN BOY!”, wow, wilbur would be proud. 

and in the end, they returned to the bench, to how it all started. they sat, listening to the discs they had worked so hard to get back, as they reconnect with wilbur, not ghostbur, but wilbur. and he tells them he’s proud of them, even if the future is uncertain and tense, they don’t let it linger. they sit and bask in their victory.

they finally got the happy ending they deserved.

hi! i feel like fundy’s character on the dream smp is under-appreciated, especially because there’s so much to unpack so here’s a (hopefully) short analysis on fundy and wilbur’s relationship on the dsmp :)

fundy and wilbur’s relationship mirrors a toxic parent-child relationship in real life. fundy might hate wilbur, he might resent him, but he’s still so desperately trying to get wilbur’s attention and approval.

when l’manburg finally gains independence from the dream smp, wilbur asks fundy to read the poem ozymandias to him, and tells him that l’manburg will one day be his.

wilbur’s motivation, albeit subtle at the beginning, and it does take a backseat later on, is power. we see this is his need to gain independence, and his willingness to rig the presidential election in his favor. when he looses, his main motivation becomes revenge, he wants revenge on schlatt, on the country that he feels failed him: so he decides to blow everything up. but when tommy, the person who’s been with him and by his side since day one, opposes him and goes against him, wilbur’s main target of revenge becomes tommy.

so where was fundy in all of this? from day one, one of fundy’s main traits has been loyalty. he doesn’t let go of that loyalty until wilbur dies, because up until that point, wilbur, and wilbur’s attention, was his main motivation. when wilbur was so focused on the election, all fundy wanted was for his father to recognize him as capable, but wilbur never took him seriously. 

when wilbur is exiled, fundy is still concentrating on him. fundy plays the role of a spy, a traitor, just for wilbur, and wilbur doesn’t even bat an eye in his direction. all fundy wants is wilbur’s approval and wilbur isn’t even thinking of him.

wilbur goes into the revolution of the 16th knowing that l’manburg will be blown up, no matter what. as a last act of revenge, when everyone is celebrating and basking in their victory, wilbur hands the presidency to tommy, giving him and luring him into a false sense of hope and security. he wants to dangle the prize right in front of him before ripping it away. of course, it doesn’t work out exactly how it planned, as tommy steps down and instead tubbo becomes president, but it’s all the same.

HELLO so i just finished watching tommy’s vod and i just wanted to give my opinions on what happened on the dream smp :)

it was... strange?? i mean it was pretty obvious that dream and techno were dead set on blowing up l’manburg and that they did have the supplies to do so, so it was kinda funny to see everyone in awe that it got blown up :| i also think it’s just the tinniest bit weird that everyone is *still* backing tommy when his motivations have turned really selfish - even after everything was blown up, tommy was still saying that the one thing they needed to do was get the discs back. 

as much as i love tommy as a main character, everyone helping him seems a bit forced, in my opinion. it’s a bit like how in the queen’s gambit, everyone gathered to help beth at the end when throughout the course of the series, she never really reciprocated the attention they gave to her. i did see that niki and hbomb didn’t really support tommy, and i kind of have to agree with them. i found it just a little unrealistic that everyone gathered to help save l’manburg when their characters were more or less neutral, or had their own stuff going on, so it didn’t really make sense for them to drop everything to help.

i thought techno was pretty on-point, he’s pretty much stayed consistent on his beliefs and motivations, and it made sense that phil helped him as well, as he’s said before he shared the opinion that l’manburg and the government was the source of all (or most) of the problems and conflicts. i’m excited to see what happens with techno and phil :)

i’m also not so sure what happened with fundy? from what i’ve heard he was against tommy but i might be wrong about that. overall, if it’s true, i really love that shift in sides because i think it’s in line with fundy’s character - i have a whole (maybe multi-chapter?) story planned on fundy’s character arc just cause it’s so interesting, and i think his character’s complexity is under-appreciated.

one thing i am looking forward to is the possible wilbur resurrection/revival arc! i might just be biased because i absolutely loved wilbur’s character, though. i honestly thought it was so fleshed out and the whole progression and descent into madness was so natural and believable!
