What’s the use of blindly memorizing the syllabus?

Truth is what is known only to you &your Conscience, says Upanishads!Sathyam is a very Important Discipline as prescribed in our Scriptures and we are so Proud that we have displayed  “Sathyameva Jayathe” everywhere in our Courts,tho’ it is not mostly followed!If we travel back into History of India we see an amazing  Society purely based on our Dharma Sastram!

If we read Genghis Khan’s biography, One of his generals who successfully conquered all places from China, Indonesia,Srilanka & on reaching our Malabar Coast ,this is what he writes:”An Amazing Society of  culturally oriented people,no thefts or Robbery,none shows hatred,All speak only the Truth!”. That’s the time we inherited the famous Chinese Nets near Cherai & Munambam Beach,Kodunganallur which I had visited & took these pictures!There is a Plaque in Cherai where the Portuguese First Landed!

To lead a Dharmic life our Scriptures have designed many rules & regulations, not difficult to follow to lead a very Healthy Happy Life even when we face many unexpected Hurdles like these Trying times but one should sincerely follow them over a period of time to enjoy the Fruits. A Upanishads based story will reveal the importance of Truth:- There was a thief in a province but a helpful thief, like Robinhood!But he was capable of entering even the most secured places& escape with a Loot! He also had a liking for A Guruji,meditating  in a forest, to whom he supplied all fruits & basic requirements! One day the Thief was very much depressed & sought his Guruji’s advice’as how he can lead a Depression Free Happy Life’! His Guruji, knowing his helpful attitude in Life, asked him: “See You are a good fellow but you can lead a Much Happier life if you give up this Stealing  Habit”(Asetyam) ‘Guruji that’s just impossible as many families depend on me &I dont know any other Job to earn a Living!’ Guruji:”Then try to give up Meat & other Non Veg!”(Ahimsa) ‘Guruji that’s also  impossible as I live on them & difficult to give up!’ “OK atleast be only sincere to your own ONE family & avoid living with many Women!”(Brahmacharyam) “Impossible as I have several families,in every place   I have looted& I have to support all of them!” Guruji”OK atleast Try  Never to tell any lies henceforth!”(Sathyam) The thief thought for a minute &said:”Yes Guruji,this seems possible&I will henceforth won’t tell any lies!” Guruji:”If you are sincere you will see for yourself a Sea change in you, sooner!” The thief leaves with his Guruji’s blessings. Next day he decides to loot the Palace as he finds security lapse every where  & many  dozing in the nights! He easily enters the Palace & near the main treasury ,he saw a man  just sitting in Meditation! He was the King himself, alone in his  Yogic costume.The king was surprised to see a stranger & was about to call the Security, when the thief told him,thinking that the King is another Security Staff : “Don’t shout.I am a famous thief &if I get the huge treasure from the Palace, we can share and your life will be totally different!”! The King amazed by the thief’s skills to have entered his most secured room& wanted to test the thief’s skills ‘how he can open the Treasure Chest” & hence accepts the Thief’s offer! The King was surprised how easily the thief opened the chest &when King asked the thief:”So much Gold bars, Jewellery are there,how will you take all of them?” The thief replied :  “You idiot.You shdnt be avarcious. Must be happy with a Few High Value Items , so that carrying them & escaping is easier!” Since the king knows there are 4 very costly Diamonds,to be embedded in his crown for the ensuing Coronation,tells the thief:”See these 4 Diamonds are the costliest as I saw the King boasting about it for his upcoming Coronation!” The thief says:”Very good !Easy to carry too.Lets keep all others inside!” lamenting, he keeps 2 Diamonds inside & 2 outside for them.

The king asked”Why don’t we take all the 4 Diamonds?” The thief: “From the value of them ,you have estimated,1 for me is more than sufficient & you take the other one!We shdn’t be Greedy” Surprised by the Thief’s  manners, the king took one diamond for himself & while leaving the thief tells the king: “Don’t tell anyone. Incase you get into any trouble,call me from such n such place &I will come & save you!”saying this the thief leaves the Palace! Next day the Minister was shocked to see the Treasure Chest open.He came to know some thief has looted the  Diamonds.When all security was alerted,the Minister  saw the other 2 Diamonds& quietly pocketed them , thinking he can put the blame on the Thief,for all the 4!The MInister promptly reported the loss of the 4 Precious Diamonds to the KIng! The King wanted all places , especially near the thief’s house thoroughly checked. Obviously the thief was caught & brought with his stolen diamond to the King! Since the King was in his full attire, the thief cdnt identify him! The King asked the thief:”Did you steal that Diamond from the Palace!” “Yes”said the thief. Minister:”What happened to the other 3 You have stolen.There were 4 of them missing?’ ‘There were 4 but I stole only 2 &I gave one to my helper .I didn’t steal all 4!’ Minister”You are telling lies.How can we believe a Thief when 4 Diamonds are missing,when he is caught with one of them?” “I m not a bad thief,My Lord!I don’t tell lies! What I say is Absolute Truth,believe me My Lord!”he pleaded! Minister:”My Lord he is a Liar.4 are missing & he is caught red handed and he must defintely have the other 3 too!” “No my Lord.I tell nothing but the Truth!I have only 1 “ The King:”You say you stole 2 Diamonds,and can you identify that other person to whom you gave the other one!’ “No my Lord.I will take any punishment for that person also as he didn’t steal the diamonds.He only helped me!” The King was touched by his Truthfulness &got up & said:“What he says is True!I was his accomplice yesterday as the thief mistook me as a Security staff & he shared the loot with the other  Diamond!Means, Minister, the other 2 Diamonds must be with You!” Minister collapsed &fell on the   King’s feet! For telling the truth the King made the Thief as the Minister &asked the security to arrest the Minister! The thief went & fell on his Guruji’s feet,who said:”See for telling the Truth, your whole life  is changed for the better!Never ever tell a lie !Never  go back to adharmic ways henceforth!God Bless You!”

All of us know the Real Truth of our various activities..

We can try to be atleast nearer to the Truth as for as Possible:Our Inner Happiness is purely decided by the Four Fold Discipline enunciated in our Scriptures. Adi Sankara repeatedly emphasises on the importance of Sadhana Chathushtaya Sambandhi without which one can never get moksha! They consist of Vivekam,Vairagyam,the 6 fold Shatka Sambandhi,& a Desire for Moksha!

A disciplined Society with these morals, can see harmony ,happiness  & be a contented one as mentioned by  the Genghis Khan’s General !
