it was never supposed to be this way. you were everything - the candle and the crucifix, the flesh and the flame - you did not spend six days breathing life into existence, creating the heavens and the earth on nothing but a whim to be thwarted by the beating of your own heart. you were everything and they were nothing - but an afterthought (which is to say, something you think of again, and again) never really goes away as much as you try to shake it, and shake you did, took the whole of creation by the throat and throttled it until they fell, casting them too into flesh and flame, and still, you ached, didnt you? you ached because it was never supposed to be this way and yet here you were, ensnared by your own construction, feeling so vividly for the first time in millennia, and on the seventh day you created love. "and yet here you are," you must think now, after countless years, as you look over at what you would never reveal (over the heavens and the earth and the angels and the men and the idea of love itself) to be your greatest creation.
