((Sasori answers the question or takes a shot))

Sasori roughly grabbed the bottle of tequila and chugged straight from its mouth, the smooth liquid hitting the back of his throat and stomach with flame. He then set it down with an angry thud.

“What’s it to you?! Fuck off and mind your own business—“

He swallowed the liquid fire with the thought that, indeed, Sasori himself couldn’t answer the question. He and the whole of Suna knew that he was the Kazekage’s favored one— Sasori would waltz past high ranking Shinobi and council men to stand by the Kazekage’s side and no one would bat an eye. He would slip into the Kazekage’s office unscheduled whenever he wanted.

But Sasori already knew that if Ryōzen were presented with the same question, he would bare his teeth and laugh it off. Where would anyone get the ridiculous idea that the Kazekage would tie himself to a person, like a sinking stone. Sex at best, perhaps. Anything else—

Ridiculous. Tedious, emotional entanglements.

Red Death

Summary: Sasori had a plan to take the king's life and add it to his collection of immortalized souls, his last moments wrapped in a masquerade dance that would enchant him blind. Things don't go according to plan. Pairing: SasoSan

Excerpt:

The dagger clattered to the ground, it’s jeweled pommel catching what little moonlight filtered into the old abandoned church. Purple poison, thick and deadly, splattered where there should have been blue blood. Sasori kept a trembling hand over his mask, lest his identity slip through his fingers as his evening plans and lifetime ambitions did.

Not that it mattered anymore. Not when the king had drawn both his saber and Sasori’s blood. “Who would have thought,” the king said, a sharp smile playing on his lips. “That assassins could be so beautiful.”

"What are you doing here, Sasori?" The Kazekage idly swirled his wine, watching as the viscous fluid curtained down on the glass-- only to swirl it back up again. "You come to my chambers after hours-- and you don't even know what you're hungry for." Attention. Praise. Company. Another lesson on strategy. "Figure out what you're paying for with that sort of devotion."

But the Kazekage was wrong. Sasori knew exactly what he wanted from the start.

For this particular headcanon, I’m using my personal headcanon on who the Sandaime Kazekage was since his personality was expounded on in canon (headcanon name is Ryōzen).

In my headcanon, Sasori’s relationship with the Sandaime was a bit complicated. My version of the Kazekage, Ryōzen, isn’t exactly someone who could care for another in the traditional sense. The Kazekage’s loyalty is chiefly to himself. The rest follows. However, as in the quote mentioned above, he does make sure that loyalty and service to him is greatly rewarded--- and Sasori has always been loyal. That much he recognizes.

So he lavishes Sasori with praise and gives him a seat at the table. The way I write it, there always tends to be a possibly manipulative edge to it-- again, Ryōzen is always loyal to himself first. But Sasori is not altruistic in this relationship either as he tends to constantly poke and prod at the boundaries set for him. He laps up the praise because it is the closest thing to love that he is willing to accept from someone, though this will always be just a cheap imitation.

Sasori gains access to bodies for his human puppetry experiments because the Sandaime allows it (lol at where that ends up later). He is able to create his sleeper agent jutsu because the Kazekage gives him people to practice on. The Sandaime provides the material because, most of the time, they do have an excess of corpses. But when Sasori hunts for /better/ subjects to experiment on, all the while believing that this is within the Kazekage’s blessing---- of course, Ryōzen would have to drop him like a hot potato. Possibly toss said hot potato as far away as he could.

Sasori, who has devoted so much time and energy and loyalty and love for this man, will not let that slide.

Sandaime Kazekage name: Ryōzen

1. who worries about what they will look like when they are older? Sasori! He’s the one with more face care products in the bathroom and will try to get Ryōzen to use it too--- to weak cries of ‘you’re preserving my skin for nefarious purposes’. But only cuz of the last time they watched Silence of the Lambs.

2. who hogs the blanket? Ryōzen. Then he gets turned into the blanket, whether he likes it or not. (He does.)

3. who is more likely to cry over a sad book or movie? Chika (referring to Monzaemon Chikamatsu) who is a cryptid figure who appears every so often as if he’s directing the next love story of the century. I kid I kid. Sasori is only slightly more likely to cry, but he hides it in ice cream and elbowing Ryōzen for a cuddle. Ryōzen plays candy crush somewhere in the middle of the movie.

4. who talks smack while playing video games? Both. Especially when things get heated up in the Dance Dance Revolution at the local arcade. There can only be one top score.

5. who sings along with the radio? Ryōzen. It does not help that he has several parts of the opera the Marriage of Figaro memorized. It does not help that apparently certain radios still play that??

6. who would enter them both into a talent show? Sasori. He has the whole act written out and Ryōzen only figures out what’s happening 5 minutes before their performance. Comically, they still pull off. Chika the cryptid gives them a perfect score.

7. who would accidentally set the kitchen on fire while cooking? Sasori. The accidental part is up for debate.

8. who would throw the other into a pool? Ryōzen would throw Sas into the pool. Mostly on a whim. He gets dragged in soon after.

9. who shops for groceries? Ryōzen shops for groceries. Surprisingly knows his way around fresh produce super well. Sasori calls like every 10 minutes to add something to the shopping list. Also to make sure that Ryōzen is actually doing the errand and hasn’t decided to beat his DDR score at the arcade again.

10. who kills the spiders? Sasori would kill Ryōzen if he decided to kill a spider.

11. who is the morning/night person? Both. Very much night people. Awake at 3am doing odd projects night people. Ryōzen is more alive pre-caffeine.
