Happy birthday to sargekin!!
To say that Gabu and Mei had been through a lot together was an understatement. But since they had found their new forest, things had calmed down for them. They had gone through three seasons together, summer, fall, and winter. Spring had just started for them again and Gabu knew exactly what he needed to do.
Sure they had watched many full moons together since they were reunited, but they didn't have any “special spots” in this forest like in the last one. So once the snow melted, he set out on his quest. He had to find a view that was even more beautiful than his secret cave so he could share it with Mei.
He stayed out late at night after his regular hunt to search. He traveled everywhere to look for the perfect spot. There were plenty of places that were nice, and even a few that were beautiful, but none of them were quite right.
Currently, he was wandering through one of the thickest parts of the forest. He let out a frustrated growl and covered his snout with his paws. “Aww, I'm never gonna find a good enough spot for us!” He sighed and started walking slowly again.
“I'll just go a little bit farther before I go back to our den,” he said to no on in particular. But suddenly, the trees gave way and his eyes widened.
“This is perfect! Yes! I'll have to bring Mei here on the next full moon!”
He took off at a run to head back to their den before the morning.
A few days passed and Gabu was able to set his plan in motion.
“Come on, Mei! It's not much farther now.” The sun had already set, but the moon wasn't up, not just yet.
He smiled back at his goat and helped him over a few of the bigger roots.
“Gabu, what's all this about? Why can't you tell me,” he whined, looking up at the wolf.
“Oh that would ruin the whole surprise! Just trust me. It's worth it.”
It only took a few more feet before Mei saw just what Gabu had been hiding from him. The pond was completely still and calm. It perfectly reflected the night sky above it. All the stars twinkled in the water.
“Gabu!!” Mei ran forward a bit before turning back to the wolf and grinning. “Gabu it's beautiful!”
The wolf strode over and sat down before giving his goat a playful lick on the top of his head.
“Just wait until the full moon comes up. I'm sure that it'll be perfect.”
“As long as it's with you, Gabu, anything is perfect.”
