Five details (leftovers) from Sardoal, a lovely town lost somewhere in central Portugal.
"(Wandering) through/in the streets of bitterness" is an idiomatic Portuguese expression, usually used when things are really, really bad. Obviously, these "streets of bitterness" are just a metaphor... but not in the village of Sardoal, where there is an actual Bitterness Street and also a Stairway of Bitterness.
I guess that it's not politically correct to dislike cats, right? Anyway, that doesn't matter, because I like them.
The Parish Church of Sardoal (aka Church of St. James and St. Matthew) is the main monument of this town, but it certainly need a bit more of care. In most towns, a XIV Century church like this one would deserve, at least, a new paint.
