It was all a whirlwind kind of situation. It had started off with a collision. His head was still preoccupied with the orders Marino had given him, and honestly he was running on so little sleep he probably shouldn’t have been driving.
The girl didn’t come out of nowhere. The girl was right there. And there he was too. It was almost like he had blacked out for the actual impact. He couldn’t recall it. The aftermath though. The crumpled heap that was moments ago a functioning human. That sight would haunt him more than any other dead body he had come across and caused in his work. No, this girl was absolutely innocent. And he had that to deal with that guilt for the past three days, visiting every day, making sure she was doing alright. He wasn’t a particularly religious man but he prayed for her every day, hoping she would come to soon. The doctors said there was no way of telling when...or even if she’d wake up.
Thankfully on the fourth day when he visited, the doctor informed him of signs of movement, and so he went into the hospital room and there she was, her eyes looked bleary but she was most definitely awake.
“Oh thank god...” Michael breathed out in relief but not before the nurse addressed him for the girl.
“Honey, your boyfriend’s come to see you.” Shit...
Approaching her bed, he didn’t want to correct the woman until she had left the room. Turning to the recovering girl, he raised his hand awkwardly. “Hey...I’m glad you’re okay.”
