the heat finally begins to relent. thank god for small mercies; she isn't sure she can reasonably keep giving the squad ice-cream for all their meals, even if it is of the healthier variety. despite knowing this slight dip in temperature is only owing to the gradual departure of the sun, she still takes it as a win. a cooler is filled with ice and drinks, three of which have been leisurely enjoyed from her spot on the rooftop, overlooking the cooling city with a relieved smile. a blend of aloe vera and sunscreen softens her skin. she can feel that one patch on the top of her shoulder, where her neck meets the joint, lightly sunburned and benefiting greatly from the layer of aftersun coating it.
her bottle emptied, aisling turns, both to replenish her beverage and to plunge her hands into the melting ice in the cooler, when she spots @saralans in the doorway at the entrance to the rooftop garden. her face lights up with a delighted yet quite surprised smile; drink and ice forgotten, she removes her earphones and tucks them into her pocket with an easy laugh.
" sorry! i didn't realize i had company. how long have you been standing there?? here, have a drink! " she nudges the cooler towards her, pulling the lid back and lowering into one of the plastic chairs that have begun to gather here since the start of the heatwave. " i'm not built for this heat, i reckon. american weather always seems to go to the extremes! "
