"30 MEN FIGHT FOREST BLAZE AT SANDILANDS," Winnipeg Tribune. June 4, 1934. Page 3. ---- Wind Holds Fire in Check and Prevents Spread to Southeastern Reserve ---- Some 30 men are battling a forest fire just west of the Sandilands reserve. Unless the wind changes, however, the reserve itself is not endangered. Two pumps and hose were sent from Winnipeg Sunday, and the firefighting crews are making good progress with these, using water from the Davidson ditch. The extent of the blaze is not yet known, as it is so large that the men had not yet been able to get all the way around it. Also, it is partly in swamp lands, where fire-fighters cannot get in to fight it effectively.

Ditches and fireguards have been dug to protect the Sandilands forest reserve, and at present the wind is aiding the fighters. Today's wind is from the north-east, and is blowing the fire back on itself.

A small fire in slash and scrub timber was reported from near East Braintree, on the water district line, Sunday, but it was quickly got under control, and is believed to be out today.

June 4. - Racing through tinder dry bush, the forest fire at mileage 55 on the Canadian National railway line west of Capreol today reached the tracks, but did not cross, the railway despatcher at Capreoil said. Trains were not delayed.
