Sanchezia parvibracteata (small-bract sanchezia)
When you live in the temperate zone like me, you're prepared to go to a tropical greenhouse like the Bloedel Conservatory (and shell out good money) to see plants that just refuse to grow in your neighborhood. A case in point - this delightful Sanchezia parvibracteata.
This species is native to wet environments in northeast Ecuador. It has both beautiful golden flowers and attractive white veins in it's bright green leaves. You must admit, this sanchezia looks very 'tropical' but are you really willing to trek the bug-infested jungles of northeast Ecuador to see one in it's home and native land?
