"so, you gunna fill me in on how your new year went?" layla puts down her cup of coffee on the table, smiling warmly across at the friend she'd invited over to catch up. "i feel like i've barely seen anybody lately. the reef is full of just tourists."

"Hey! Sam!" Lucky immediately wonders if he just embarrassed himself by saying that a little too loud, his volume a direct consequence of the punch in his hand combined with his excitement to see a face that was now becoming a familiar one to him thanks to Will.

"It's me. Lucky. From the wedding."

Almost immediately, he feels compelled to make an addendum to that.

"Dun na nuh nuh nuh-- another one bites the dust," Cass sang out, their headphones blasting so loud it was impossible for them to have any idea how loud they were. Not that it mattered, the garden was essentially empty for the evening. They just wanted to finish building the compost bin before they took off. Which was the perfect opportunity to belt out some tunes on a beautifully cool summer evening. Especially since the further they got into summer the more insufferably sweltering it'd be. They broke from the words, turning to a whistle as they dusted off the frame and nearly jumped out of their fucking skin when they caught movement in their peripheral.

"Jesus H. Christ--" Headphones shoved from ears to their shoulders, a hand moving to press to their collar bone before chuckling "A little warning next time Sam-- I could've easily hurled this hammer at you...I mean-- I'd have to pick it back up first but I'm pretty fuckin quick in a jam,"

"your birds missed you." it was an adjustment for them being in layla's apartment, but she hoped the plants she placed around them and the sunshine from the window made up for the sudden change of space. "they were lovely house guests." smiling, the brunette adjusts the ribbon that secured the mask to her face, "you might have invertedly convinced me to getting one of my own — maybe."

"Oh my god, you've gotta see the new Lily I bought at the Bash." Her new pride joy, you could see the gleam in Layla's eye's as she presented the plant with such excitement. It was great to have a friend that understood and matched Layla's love for plants.

"Sam's a sweetheart. Like, an actual salt-of-the-earth human being. You just feel you can trust him with any of your life secrets or skeletons in your closet. He's pretty much everything you'd want in a friend. There's this calming, safe sensation from just being around him. I can't quite explain it."

"Look at you!" Layla, a little buzzed, had momentarily lost Kaede in the crowd and was meandering around the event until she stumbled on Sam outside. "You clean up well." She doesn't remember the last time she'd witnessed the man in a suit. It was very fascinating to everyone so dressed up regardless.

"Sam is a ray of sunshine in my life. We met at the aquarium and have been good friends ever since. We spent an hour just talking about the sea creatures we love — and later, plants. He's one of those people who seem to walk the earth with kindness. To me, he's got quite the old soul."
