Scientific Facts To Remember When You Feel Like Giving Up
Remember that the acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razor blades, including the kinds that come in the form of the words you swallow.
Remember that your left lung is smaller than your right lung, simply to make room for the heart you hold within your chest. At your most primal level your heart was favored, it took precedence. It will never be incapable of growing, it will never cease to hold the whole damn world within it, so do not try to stop it.
Remember that you use 200 million cells to take one step forward. Do not vilify yourself for the journey you have walked thus far, for it has taken effort and every single aspect of your body has conspired to help you get to where you are.
Remember that you shed your tired skin every twenty-seven days. You were not made to hold your past within you, you were not made to carry it all on your back. You physically let go of every bad thing that has ever touched you, of every pair of foreign hands that unbuttoned your shirt but never your demons; you let go of every regret, of every insecurity. You are always gifted a clean slate.
Remember that your tongue is the strongest muscle in your body. You were made to speak ā so speak loudly, and honestly about how you feel. Speak about what hurts you, about what has broken you. Speak about your story, share it with the world.
Remember that the carbon in your body is the same carbon that courses through this Earth, that makes up mountains. Let this remind you that you can stand alone, you can stand tall, for just like Everest, just like Fuji, you are a force to be reckoned with.
Remember that the bones within your body are as strong as granite. You are never broken, you are never weak. When you feel like you couldnāt possibly bear the weight of heartbreak, of growth, remember that your foundations are stronger than concrete. You were made to endure, you were made to withstand.
Repeat after me: you were made to survive. Every single part of you, every single perceived flaw and every single aspect of who you are, was made with the intention of defying the odds. You were bred from tough, celestial pieces of this world, and therefore it will never be able to defeat you.

So, I have to ask about hair: Iām fascinated by your bangs. You cut it right at the end of shooting, right? Did you do it to say, I'm done with Claire?
C: I think it was a really pathetic mini rebellion. I did it in South Africa. We had another two weeks to go. I cut it myselfāI robbed the scissors from the hair and makeup department and I took them home and I just was like [chopping motion]. We have a long season. Itās 10 months; itās very intense. And sometimes I think you want to own a little bit of your own life, and I think that was my really silly personal rebellion.
S: Everything is controlled. You have great freedom playing the characters, but our lives are so structured, you know, the way you look.
Is it a disguise? Can you now go to the grocery store or walk through an airport and people don't recognize you?
C: I mean, I can do that anyway. Because Iām scruffy in my day-to-day life. They donāt expect a TV actress to be as scruffy as I am, it's great. Iāll be standing with him and people will be like, "Sam, Sam, can we take your picture?" And then, like five minutes later, theyāll like, "Oh!" and realize it's me, because they just think I'm this schleppy...I don't know.
S: I think you always look glamorous.
C: No, I don't.
S: You do.

I: You guys are really close friends. So what do you like about each other? And you can also tell me what you dislike...Ā
Sam, laughing: Long list!Ā
Cait: I mean, Samās just so kind. Heās a really good friend. He always checks in. I donāt know, he has one of the biggest hearts and smallest egos that I know.Ā
[Sam and Caitriona give each otherās high five]Ā
Sam: Absolute same.Ā
Cait, laughing: You can't just pick my answer!Ā
Sam: No, sheās not only a great actress, she's a great friend and a great advice giver, too. And we have each other's backs. Itās a remarkable journey that weāve been on, starting this together, being thrown in the deep end and being like,Ā
āOkay! We're going to do this togetherā
Itās a nice bond and I think people are fascinated by it...
We respect each other and have got each other's backs. Iām very fortunate that we have that, itās great.

Ireland. Home. And one thing I will say about Ireland, we donāt eat boiled cabbage, and whatās that thing that everyone eats here for St. Patrickās Day? Corned beef? We donāt have that. That stopped in 1743. Past. We donāt do that ā so donāt eat that for St. Patrickās Day.
Scotland.Ā Second in the world to Ireland, really. Itās like a poor cousin, but itās like a cool poor cousin. Like a poor cousin youād like to hang out with, but not eat any of their food because itās just weird. They fry everything ā Mars Bars, pizzas, seriously.
-BuzzFeed 2015
Cait: You know,Ā Scottish people are, they are hilarious and they have a fantastic sense of humour and it's funny, you know, occasionally people on the street will make a comment but it's always something very fun and very sweet, so yeah I love being here and it's kind of like home but it's different enough to feel like you're away Ā
-Golden Globeās Flashback Interview 2017
Sam (to a fan): You donāt wanna go to Ireland, spend all your time in Scotland. Cait: Hey! Sam: Itās a poor relative of Scotland. Dark⦠Cait: Wow Sam: Depressingā¦terrible, terrible beer. (looking at Cait) I was in an Irish pub last night, I promise itās ok⦠Cait: Irish people are like elephants. We donāt forget. (both laughing) [...] I: What should she (the fan) see? Cait: Well I do Scotland and you do Ireland (laughing) Sam: Great ideaā¦ok Cait: I would say go to Loch Rannoch in Scotland, it's where we film all the stones scene and it's the most beautiful place I've been. Sam: Don't go there, there is a lot of crazy fans (both laughing) it is beautiful, isn't it? Cait: Yeah. Sam: It's amazing Cait: And you can climb Schiehallion while you are there. Sam: You can! It's great and it can be your first munro. [...] Sam: Ireland... I would say Dublin is an amazing city, if you go north the Giant ās Causeway is incredible, It's really a fun place and you can go to Bushmill distillery, you can go to Guinness... it doens't all revolve around alcool but it does... sometimes... for me, it's a great country.Ā

āCaitriona is in New York I know and itās snowing and sheās cold and miserable, poor thing, I miss her greatly."Ā -Youtube Greetings 2015
Obviously I sort have missed my partner in crime but it's not that long, untilĀ he's driving me nuts once again.
Ā -ECCC 2017
Since you two have been such close partners on this whole experience, what was it like to go on without her?
Yeah. Honestly, itās like having a death in the family. Well, I donāt know, I mean, itās just like a different show. Itās hard to separate yourself from the character. Jamieās present, living in his world, and Claireās present and living in her world, and they both believe the other is dead. Itās always hard when weāre apart, actually, because sheās a great person, great to come to work with, and a very good actress. But I think it all adds to the reunionāif thereās a reunion, or when thereās a reunionāwell you know thereās one in the books. It should be very special.
When I talked to Sam last week, he said filming Season 3 without you was ālike having a death in the familyāā
Och! Heās already killed me in his mind. Gone. Too sad.
What is it like for you to shoot without Sam?
Itās really strange! Sam and I obviously have worked so closely together for the last three years. Even when I was filming some stuff with Tobias Ā it was never solid blocks where Sam and I wouldnāt be working at least a couple of days in between. I definitely miss him. The other day we were in the makeup trailer right beside each other, and weāre like, āOh, youāre off to your world, and Iām off to my world.ā Itās very strange... I think pretty soon weāll be back together, and heāll be sick of the sight of me.
-Vanity Fair 2016
The first time we screen tested together, Iād been on board the show for a couple of months. I had flown out to America different times to screen test different girls, also London and New York. They couldnāt find the right actress to play Claire, they couldnāt agree. Caitriona came in. We had a fantastic audition. We had a big scene to do by the river from Episode Nine, where Jamie and Claire go for each other. Thereās dramatic high stakes. I remember tearing pieces out of each other, it was very physical, I had her in a bear hug, looking at her, and she was really pissed off at me, really angry, really strong. We were both willing to go for it. Itās important that Claire is Jamieās foil and likewise, theyāre equal.
-IndieWire 2015
How is it working with Caitriona [Balfe], how have you gotten to know her, and what's it like working together?
The first time I met Caitriona was in her screen test. Weād seen a lot of other actresses to play the part, and they were very good and fantastic. But as soon as she came in, you could tell there was something about her, and I think all the producers sat up. The scenes just went really well in our screen test, and I remember at one point having her in a bear hug, like, sort of we were face-to-face in this really passionate scene, arguing with each other. And I thought, oh, I've really, really upset her here. She's really angry at me. And I thought this was great. And she was giving as much as I was giving her; and as she left all the producers kind of looked at each other and I could tell that they really liked her. She was wearing a great dress as well, it was really good, it was a slight tartan, but yet also a sort of 1920s look to it. So she did a great job. And, to be honest, working with her has just been a joy. She's so easygoing. The whole crew loves her, she's just easy to get on with, creative, intelligent, and pretty good-looking, too.
