Mr. Allen Swift: Born: 1908-Died 2010 This man owned and drove the same car for 82 YEARS. Can you imagine even HAVING the same car for 82 years? Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield, MA ) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P 1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it, up until his death in 2010 at the age of 102. He was the oldest, living owner of a car that was purchased new. Just thought you'd like to see it. It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at Any speed and is in perfect, cosmetic condition at 82 years of age. That's Approximately 13,048 miles per year, 1,087 miles per month. 1,070,000! That's miles, not kilometres! That's British engineering from a bygone era.
OK seriously I just found this scan and I'm losing my mind because you know who else used to drive a Toyota Echo?? THAT'S RIGHT, I DID!!!!
i’m playing mariokart 64
Ok but listen. Ive been driving since I was fifteen, and i’ve had several cars of increasingly poor quality (excluding my current car, since I'm finally in a financially stable place and can afford car payments. This is all entirely besides the point) And no matter what, if I see someone on the road driving the same exact car as me, I will always wave, and they will always wave back, and sometimes they will even wave first. I think that’s fucking fantastic because as excluded as I feel sometimes from society and my own local community, its nice to know that people will still recognize these similarities and bond over them, however briefly. These people driving the same cars as me, they have entirely and wildly different lives than I do! But we still have at least one thing in common, and we will both happily acknowledge it and I think that’s great and unifying and human and good and it makes me so happy every time it happens
