Ok, so this is my cat Sam in his “good boy hoodie.” He is constantly trying to get my attention by clawing at the furniture or pawing the blinds, or just straight up whining. I play with him, I sit with him, and buy him toys for enrichment, but the boy just won’t leave me alone during the day. It got to the point where it was really hindering my ability to work. 

I started putting him in his hoodie for about an hour a day because it bought me some peace and quiet. He chills out instantly, and often just goes and takes a nap. He found it disconcerting at first, but the hoodie doesn’t seem to bother him anymore. He never tries to wiggle out of it or fight me when I put it on. 

My therapist theorized that he probably has attachment issues and/or anxiety, hence needing to be paid attention to 24/7. She wondered if the hoodie somehow functions the same way as a weighted blanket; it comforts him so he doesn’t need me to be talking to him or playing with him to feel secure.
