Dr Facilier by sambeawesome
This video is REALLY important. Please watch it.
Self-care is one of the most important things that you can do, whether you're an artist or a writer or a gamer or a guy working overtime at your job or a pre-med student or an athlete or anyone or anything.
And yet people have a mindset that you don't need to take care of yourself, that you'll be fine if you pull an all-nighter, that you should draw every day even if you feel burnt-out. There's a mindset that you need to work continually in order to be any good, in order to prove yourself.
That is a lie.
It's even one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Sharpen the Saw.
Your body is a tool. All tools need maintenance, especially complex ones, because so many things can go wrong with them. And the human body is the most complex machine you possess.
If your screwdriver were to break, you wouldn't keep using it. It's the same way with your body and mind. Don't keep powering through. You need to know when to stop and mend.
Thanks to the inimitable sambeawesome for allowing me to post her video here! Go follow her on YouTube or DeviantArt or Twitter because she's both an awesome artist and person.

This is submission piece for @sambeart 's 5000 subscribers contest here. I quickly browsed through my artwork during the last year (it's everything since my comeback and basically all my artwork here). They all need redrawing in terms of technique and anatomy but this is one I felt less inspired. I remember I had no idea for this prompt and that I messed up her face, so this is the one worth redrawing. Top one is Day 22 of last year's Inktober made 22nd Oct 2016. Bottom one is from 14th Aug 2017, so they are ~10 months apart. I used the same character, basic concept, setting and materials as before. The idea is pretty the same, but it looks so different, so I don't know if it would count? Translation of signs: "Flying models", "Dioramas", "Model trains lvl2" What changed in my opinion? + more details + I learned how to make nice wood texture + there is more happening around her, setting is more established + background looks more consistent + better contrast. Patrice is popping out + more line variation, thicker lines on important (Patrice) and close elements + anatomy (a little bit) + lighter shading on Patrice (finally she's blonde!) - I sacrificed extreme closeup, so composition may be a little bit dull compared to the older one - her pose is not that extreme, so the feeling of boredom is weaker - her left hand looks a little bit wonky - it may look more boring as a picture Overall, I'm glad that I redrew this and I'm happy with the results. Materials: Rotring Tikky Graphic 0.2 fineliner, Rystor 0.1 fineliner, Rotring rapidograph 0.18 And congratulations, Sam on hitting 5k! \(^^)/

I am so proud of my handwriting. When in, what, fifth grade I think, I figured out that my handwriting was terrible. So I decided to do something about it. And so I did. Found one liked, tried to mimick it, made it my own and practiced it, and sparkle sparkle here we are.
(Also, I think I am close to be qualified as a math nerd. And I am so proud of that doodle like you wouldn't believe)
