It was not his finest moment, to be sure. But since it was also not his worst-- and because he was currently too drunk to care-- he ignored the eyes he thought he felt at his back as he stumbled his way through the patrons and shouldered past several people outside on his way to his car. For a brief moment, he thought he’d recognized a face-- Sam’s face-- but he hadn’t lingered long enough on the features to know for sure. It didn’t matter, anyway. He couldn’t handle another confrontation now. 

As he fished his keys from his pocket, blinking heavily as he tried to focus through his blurry vision, some part of him realized this was stupid. The rest of him, though? The rest of him just couldn’t seem to find it within himself to care.

The keys slipped from his hand, clattering to the ground at his feet, and he smacked his palm against his door. “Mother fucker,” he grumbled as he steadied himself enough to lean down and pick them up. His world spun and for one horrifying moment, he thought he might vomit. Or pass out right there in the street. But he managed to right himself, and went to work again trying to shove his house key into the side of his keyless entry car, a frustrated groan in his throat as the fucking thing refused to unlock.
