Totally Spies!đâ¤ď¸đ
Everyoneâs talking about the guy knitting his own Olympic sweater from the pool sidelines (and respect to that) but Iâd like to shout out Sam Sullivan for building legos during opening ceremony and begging the official LEGO account to give her the giant Eiffel Tower set
âPull the ad. Resign. Delete your account.â
BC Liberal candidate Sam Sullivan is facing calls to âresignâ for misrepresenting the views of a harm reduction activist in a recent BC Liberal campaign video.
Sullivan, a former Vancouver mayor, recently released a two minute video accusing the BC NDP government of making his Vancouver-False Creek riding âless safeâ after a safe injection site was opened in an upscale urban neighbourhood.
âOur neighbourhoods are less safe after the NDP government moved untreated, unsupported people with addictions into nearby hotels and community centres,â the BC Liberal candidate wrote on Facebook.
The ad quotes Garth Mullins, a local harm-reduction activist who recently resigned from a provincial overdose committee over the BC governmentâs handling of the provinceâs ongoing overdose crisis.
âI am not going to stand at an open hole digging a grave with John Horgan,â Mullins is quoted in Sullivanâs attack ad.
But Mullins says the BC Liberal candidate didnât bother asking for permission to use his quote, particularly given his words were used out-of-context in a video attacking overdose prevention sites and demonizing members of his own community.
âWithout my permission, my quote is being weaponized in a Sam Sullivan / BC Liberal campaign ad against (Overdose Prevention Sites),â Mullins tweeted.
âI am sure as fâk not gonna vote for the BC Liberals,â Mullins added.

BEN: We can't stay here. It was a bad call sending Ringer ahead. I knew we shouldn't've split up. We're bugging out of here in the morning.
CASSIE: How are we going to do that? You're hurt. Evan isâ
BEN: This isn't about him. Well, I guess it is to youâ
CASSIE: He's the reason you're alive right now to bitch, Parish.
BEN: I'm not bitching.
CASSIE: Yes, you are. You're bitching like a junior miss beauty queen.
SAM: *laughs at Ben* Cassie called you a bitch.
Sullivanâs comments come weeks after BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson was criticized for dismissing renting as âa wacky time of lifeâ and âpart of growing up and getting better.â
BC Liberal housing critic Sam Sullivan added to the growing list of reasons why a BC Liberal government would be bad for renters by confirming his opposition to rent controls. Removing rent controls would lead to unlimited rent increases.
Speaking in the house on Monday morning, MLA Sullivan railed against the NDPâs move to cap 2019 rent increases at the rate of inflation instead of allowing the 4.5% hike set to occur under the formula left by the BC Liberals. During his speech, Sullivan called rent increase caps âunbelievableâ and âchaosâ for the rental market:
âI am almost speechless after hearing my friend from the West End just give me his theories on the economics of rental housing. A few months ago he sent the market of rental housing into chaos after announcing that he would be imposing rent controls. Rent controls!â (HANSARD, March 25)
Sullivan went on to argue for an unrestricted âsupply and demandâ system for determining rents, lamenting that rent controls âinterfere artificiallyâ in that.
But the types of regulations that Sullivan opposes have been in place in BC for years and exist in many jurisdictions. His comments are a departure from past BC Liberal policy and suggest the Andrew Wilkinson-led BC Liberals would make life even harder for renters.
Sullivanâs comments come weeks after BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson was criticized for dismissing renting as âa wacky time of lifeâ and âpart of growing up and getting better.â
BC NDP MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert:
âRenters have been asking for help for years, and the BC Liberals ignored them at every step. Â Instead, they watched from above as the housing crisis drove prices further and further out of reach. People needed help. Our government heard them and took real action to make their lives more affordable. Now, the BC Liberals are promising to undo it all by okaying uncontrolled rent increases that would be backbreaking for people already struggling to get by.â
Cassie, through the smudged window, shrinking. Cassie, on the road, holding Bear. Lifting his arm to help him wave good-bye. Good-bye, Sammy. Good-bye, Bear. The road dust boiling up from the big black wheels of bus, and Cassie shrinking into the brown swirl. Good-bye, Cassie. âSam Sullivan | Chapter 37 | The 5th Wave
