Daniel Osbourne is an awful teacher, judging by the case of Sam Blakeman.

I'm so bothered by Sam's assignment and the destructive consequences its disappearance aka Megan stealing it and Daniel being a shitty teacher about it has had on Sam.

Sam is a straight A's student who always submits his work on time.

Therefore Daniel as his teacher has no reason to believe that Sam is lying when he said he had already handed it in.

Any teacher worth their wage keeps track of students handing in their assignments. At least that's what all my teachers did. The second you handed in your assignment, they knew you had handed it in.

Any teacher that doesn't do checks in real time, surely would check the stack of assignments they have to mark before starting marking, and would therefore know if someone hadn't submitted.

Sam's essay was stolen by Megan from the... I think it was The Rovers where Daniel left out the student papers mid-marking when he went to order. (Maybe he wasn't marking but carrying the papers home to mark them, but it doesn't matter because the papers were left in such a way that Megan saw them and could steal one without raising suspicion ie rummage through a properly stored bag.)

He confronted Sam about the late essay outside school, outside school hours. I dunno if this is British custom to approach your students in their free time, but it looks ICKY.

When Sam said "you must've lost it" to Daniel, Megan cracked a joke about "next he'll be saying the dog ate it"... And Daniel, HE LAUGHED! He laughed at the expense of a student for whose welfare he had been concerned two minutes earlier when he wondered if something was up because this was the first time ever Sam handed in anything late.

What kind of teacher laughs AT a student? A vulnerable student at that? It's different to laugh WITH students. But to laugh AT students is just plain cruelty.

Megan is a teacher. She made a joke at the expense of a student. That's cruel. Daniel didn't care about that. He was not the least bit concerned about teacher ethics with Megan's behaviour. So not only did one teacher, Daniel laugh at Sam, it was TW0 TEACHERS laughing at Sam.

You know, with just this essay case in mind, I am not surprised that Sam has cracked and fallen into a mental health crisis. Megan, a teacher, threatening and bullying him is enough on its own. But Daniel, a formerly trusted good teacher judging and laughing at him is surely bad too.
