14-25 August,2008 “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye” When I woke up in the morning and enjoyed the lake view with a cup of coffee, I couldn’t imagine how this beautiful and peaceful place used to be a horrible place.. Central sulawesi was in list of travel warning for several years. Now I can say that its completely safe. Even in central of conflict area, Poso and Tentena, you can travel safely. Going around poso lake by motorbike from tentena back to tentena, taking public transport and ojek for palu-poso-tentena and ampana, and all of the intercity trip I did at night, I felt nothing but safe. The only one problem in this area is landslide (especially in rainy season) which is unpredictable and sometimes takes ‘long’ time to make the road back to normal :). If u r in tight schedule and have high blood pressure problem, and have to meet the plane or ferry schedule, prepare 1 day allowance for anticipating unpredictable situation. Otherwise, just enjoy it as a part of adventure…. :) What to visit in this trip were: -Palu : palu bay, paragliding at mantamatili hill -Donggala : Tanjung karang (nice spot for diving/snorkeling with white sandy beach),only 45 min drive from Palu. - Tentena: Poso lake : the third largest lake in Indonesia. Some parts have white sand. Therefore local people call it ‘beach’. Saluopa waterfall: beautiful, unique, has 13 levels and we can climb to the top - Kolonodale : Morowali National Park with rock painting. Batang korok river is a wild river which stretched between Kolonedale and Tomata. It was ‘visited’ accidentally, and I realized that it was amazing: it has many branches, some parts are like waterfalls, the wild jungle surrounding and in dry season the water is crystal blue - Bada valley : nice valley, megaliths sites. ‘Painful’ journey, since have to sit on motorbike for 5 hrs one way from Tentena.The top price for ojek i ever paid,Rp.250.000 return. Im not sure its worth the effort or not :) . If just rated to megaliths, perhaps its not worth it. But for the whole impression, I think Bada could be considered as interesting destination because the journey to bada itself was challenging. Crossing the jungle, thru the very terrible road (only accessible by 4WD vehicles and motorbike), the wet and freeze weather made the whole journey was ‘unusual’ one. Sometimes we traveled not for reaching sites but grasping the experiences. no regret :) -Togean island : in next chapter Traveling during the 'weird' dry season in the province which has least rainfall in Indonesia(weird because it was august-should be hot, but it rained,cloudy everyday), getting few hours sunshine at the proper time was blessing. Sometimes we take all for granted and forget that Allah has given so many things to be grateful for. And i was so lucky for the unusual time for paragliding (all the pics were taken by my travel companion), chased by rain-but safe in motorbike trip and..the pics which were taken in those blessed few hours sunshine..
