Ok, a blog inauguration answering the lost @make-a-desert-call-it-peace ask for my five loyal mutuals.
I have no idea why everyone seems to think my head canons would be depressing; I’m a ray of sunshine. Let’s start with Ruben and ones deeply rooted in canon, and maybe i'll give Niall a chance once it's not 2 am.
Ruben is touching Niall constantly. Starting with friendly shoulder-checking and hair-ruffling, progressing to grabbing Niall by the scruff and throwing an arm around his shoulder. The longer they are together, the fewer excuses Ruben needs to put his hands on Niall, and it’s not like he’s met with a protest. Soon enough, he allows himself to be not only brotherly rough with Niall, but also simply affectionate – keeping a hand on his leg at the breakfast table, caressing his hair when they stick up funnily after getting damp, grabbing him by the waist to move him around. Niall never comments on it, even when sometimes it makes him uncomfortably hot. He thinks of himself badly (a creep, and a pervert) when that happens, but not enough to refuse the comfort it brings him. Lori was never one for physical affection, and Niall is hungry for it, after years of associating it only with being shown around.
Ruben has a lot of bad dreams when he sleeps at night, so he spends a lot of them out, and then takes cat naps while it’s light out. He slept well enough that first time with Niall, but it isn’t until they get high and end up sleeping on the floor one night that he realizes the correlation. Well, he thinks it’s hash and Niall’s closeness combined, so he slips into Niall’s bed only after smoking and gets up before him. And if Niall wakes up some nights – always with Ruben behind him, never getting to see his face – he never mentions it.
Ruben continues to sneak out of the house without Niall; not often, but often enough. What he doesn’t do is bring birds to their bedroom – besides, on rare occasions, Mona. She tries to be somewhat considerate and stay quiet, but Ruben… Ruben talks. Nothing terribly nasty or creative, only small reassuring questions and prompts. And he can’t help but steal a glance at Niall each time – to check if he’s still sleeping, of course. He asks is this how you like it? and you want it that bad? into the night, and tries not to think about whom he wants to answer.
