Me [rewatching tcw]: aw I always loved these characters even tho they were technically villains, their designs are so unique, let me look into them a little bit [thinking others would think the same]
Others:
Anyway I especially LOVE Ione/her design, and I'd like to see more of her species. Cassie is really cool too, though I can see how her design could be more improved. The og concept art *is* pretty awesome tho
Ione → her hands, her eyes 🥺 idk I think it's cool they went for a vertical shape instead of the usual horizontal or buggishly round. Plus her color is 😚🤌🏻 also I think the sharp teeth are a nice contrast to how soft-spoken she is. + I think Fish was an intentional choice. (insert RPDR gif)
Cassie → she kinda reminds me of Asajj and Trill (from the Dawn of the Jedi – Legends – comics), in the sense I always saw potential for them to have a change of heart + the hair design reminds me a bit of Trill's.
Anyway, I like that she's lanky and tall (in that way, I'm reminded of Aurra Sing - specifically her hands). I wish they'd stayed more true to her original design (especially in terms of her clothing, but maybe that has smth to do with the fact TCW was aired on Cartoon Network?) + she's very reminiscent of a certain Sith's original design (ahem, Maul), is she not?
AND the markings on her arms/chest are super cool, which is partly why I wish she was wearing shorts instead of those long boots, it'd be cool to see if she has some there. Like, are they more similar to Zabrak or Mirialan tattoos that are intentionally designed and added to the body, or do they develop naturally like the markings Togruta have?)
The best thing is they were queer characters. Yeah, maybe their designs were a lil rough around the edges but still pretty fascinating imo! I like the fact they're so different - anatomically and design-wise. + I think it fits the whole theme of queerness. (Hello, Queer Villain Trope. Dr. Frank N. Furter, Ursula, Hades, etc. And also the Queer Urge™️ to empathize with monsters/ugly creatures bc.. well, the vilification of Queerness through history.)
^ this final artwork of them wasn't released until 2018 in the book titled Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious by Pablo Hidalgo. Which, looking at all three characters' body posture, does make me wonder whether there was a poly situation going on lol, at least Nack might have thought so. Clearly, based on the episode's plot, Ione and Cassie weren't so keen on that idea.
So many questions come up for me as I think about these two characters, I'd really like to see more of their species in SW content, even if they're just bg characters. Or learning about these specific characters' pasts would be nice, but I might be the only person who has ever said that...
I was just thinking about them again, and thought I'd made a post about them. Whether or not anyone else finds them interesting, I'm glad they canonically exist in the Galaxy.
and yeah, I got angry when Cassie held the Twi'lek mother and daughter hostage at the end of the episode, but overall I just think they deserve more attention. My head canon: they get rehabilitated and once free live on a planet far away from Coruscant, never to bother anyone again, lessons learned.
