Y'know, "skill" is debatable, but finishing things. I have finished 10+ works, among those 5 full size novels*, which teenage me who never made it past chapter 6 would never have believed. *I guess Glass Shards is still awaiting major edits, but I finished it once in German already :p

You know, as time goes on, and in day-to-day life, actually rather few!

Eilis is very practical. She doesn't waste much time with what-ifs, instead focusing on the present and thinking about the future. Everything she did, she would do all over again.

Now, Finnian, uh. This man is regrets and unresolved issues in a trench coat, so he will have phases in which he hates himself for not being able to protect her better; for not getting there in time, for not being stronger when Clayton hurt them both, for being unable to heal her hand.

For Noah and Wren, please and thank you!!

Honestly, there are only mild disagreements (if we ignore the differing opinions about self-worth.)

They cannot agree on the summer pasture in the mountains. Wren loves it. Noah does not like it. He spent a summer there once as a child and was so miserable, his parents never sent him again. He needs his home and his bed and his hearth and his morning cup of coffee in his chair. I have no idea if she'll keep going in the future, but if she does, he will still visit her and stay with her. Being with Wren makes up for the downsides, he'll just never agree that it's fun.

Even—or especially—knowing what she knows at the end of the book, Wren does not understand how Noah can love the storm. I mean, she does kinda get it, for reasons that would be too much of a spoiler right now, but she's sick with worry every time he leaves the house during one. She would never try to stop him, though, so there isn't much in the way of dealing with it—she just deals with it and fusses over him when he returns.

I guess for an OC of mine, it's not very novel that Noah worries that the life he can offer her isn't good enough. She grew up in the city, married rich, and now she lives on a sheep farm. He worries that she doesn't even realize what she is missing yet. Of course, the worry is unfounded, because Wren gladly trades all the money in the world for being happy. She likes animals. She likes doing things that have practical results. And she likes the mountain so much more than the ocean.

Even more surprisingly (shocked pikachu), Wren worries that she won't be enough for him. After years of denial and thinking that she just has to find the right man, she finally has to admit that there's something wrong with her (ace, girl, you're ace). Even if he insists that he doesn't care, she has her doubts that this will stay true, and I think a part of her will always try to be prepared to deal with that, should it come to that.

How do you answer the question "What kind of thing do you write?"

And a bonus ask: Have you ever given a sanitised or otherwise 'creative' answer because you knew the person asking wouldn't vibe with an accurate description?

I mean uh sorry, thanks for the ask. Ever. Lol. The question isn't if they don't vibe with it, the question is what they vibe the least with, talking about disability, the queerness, or just plain violence.

My go-to answer is a very deflective "fantasy stuff" or "romance stuff" and few people continue to ask after knowing it's English anyway. And I do actually have two pretty harmless romance novellas (breaking every bone in her body doesn't count as violence) in case someone wants to see something.

I guess in the end it's true. I do write fantasy stuff with some romance. That's the genre. And we're (probably, slowly) getting to a point where we don't have to justify a protagonist who's queer or whatever. Unfortunately, I'm not quite there yet 🙃

What kind of character interaction gets you kicking your feet and cackling with indulgent joy when you write it?

None. You would not believe how unexcited I am when writing. I sit here putting the words on paper like it's a conveyor belt and it's my 7-5 taping closed boxes of cotton swabs. I think I managed to cry once (1) when writing, and that was when I killed Damien in the AU.

Now assuming that it's not meant literally, I do have a soft spot for opposites, for characters who by all means should not get along as well as they do. Caldyn is terribly afraid of fire—Seyonna is fire. Irina is poor—Ross is rich and has no idea about the real world (and his family abused her.) Wren is deaf and a city-girl—Noah is a gruff farmer who doesn't know any sign at the start of the story. Damien is a criminal—Riordan was one of those who arrested him.

I like my opposites even if they're not as relevant. Laurent is a fire mage—Aurelia ice. Finnian is a life mage—Eilis death (and their magic both sucks.) Breannan is obsessed with books—Caldyn has never read a book in his life. Josephine is ambitious and organized—Valadan is, uh. Not.
