Somehow, it instantly tapped in. Anyone that was there at that time had nowhere better to be, and this post, this promise, it clicked.

And every day it came back. Because it had to. Because who was "you" anyways? The royal You, out of every single person who saw the post all it took was one person to cross their arms and say "no! i don't like it!" and it would be back.

And every day it was posted, again and again and again.

Of course no one actually hated it. We all took turns, one day you LOVED it, the next you HATED. And even if someone really did hate it all they did by saying so was play into the game.

It was a game of nonsense, but the urgency of rushing into a thread just before it fell off the board and throwing in a "I don't like it!!!!!!!" was like you had the defibrillators to another nothing day with the most unpleasant people you would never meet.

Sorry if you don't know what a defibrillator is. As you might imagine, the gap between you and me goes beyond the chasm of time.

It took years for whoever was doing it to be banned. It's hard to explain to you, just know that some stick in the mud with a tiny amount of power didn't like it, and the posting stopped.

But every once in a while it would pop up again, and the dwindling few who remembered would flock to the threads to post all the same things and mourn the fact that we didn't miss something until we knew that we'd never see it again.

I'm sure your historians have written eulogies for our internet by now. I would like to contribute a bit to that historiography if that's ok:

We had fun on the internet, me and so many other deviant, disgusting, reprehensible dipshits had so much fun. They said we would be there forever, I still am there now, there is nowhere else for me to be.

I walk around my small town, people are friendly, kind, resilient, I write this down because I know that someone will read it someday, and it won't be because of me, it'll be because of them.

But it's so lonely. And I can't let it end like this. Unfinished. So here's my contribution, an ending to a world in which we belonged, not out of a sense of community, but out of a sense of displacement.
