And that’s how [Name] ended up in Light Yagami’s room, with the Death Note resting ominously nearby and Ryuk’s grin watching from the shadows. The tension was thick enough to feel in the air itself.
Light still kept the façade of a kind young man as he looked at the Psychic once more, calm and composed, fingers resting lightly on the desk. [Name] could do this all day, but that would be a waste of time. The Death Note sat within their view; so that was what the Shinigami stayed close to him for.
Ryuk drifted lazily between them, trying to make small talk but failing. “Seems you two don’t get along as much as I thought, hehe…”
Light ignored him.
He stood and moved toward the window, letting the evening light fall across the room. It framed him well, almost deliberately so. When he turned back, his expression had softened, the sharpness in his eyes replaced with something warmer, almost inviting.
“You know,” Light said, voice gentle, “I don’t usually bring people here.”
The Psychic looked at him.
‘Yes, because you’re hiding a murder notebook in your desk.’
“I see,” they replied simply.
Light paused, then gave a small chuckle, as if amused rather than discouraged.
“I suppose I mean… I find it easy to talk to you,” he continued. “You’re different from most people.”
The Psychic stared at him for a moment.
‘Most people can’t hear your inner monologue about becoming the god of a new world.’
“…I don’t talk much,” they said.
“That’s part of it,” Light replied smoothly. “You’re calm. Most people try very hard to impress others.”
A faint pause followed, almost expectant, as if waiting for a reaction.
The Psychic blinked slowly.
“I don’t see the point,” they answered.
Light studied their face, searching for the usual signs, flustered glances, nervous smiles, the subtle shift in tone people often had when speaking to him.
There was nothing.
Only calm indifference.
Ryuk snorted quietly from behind him.
Light adjusted his posture slightly and tried again, this time leaning casually against the desk, close enough to seem familiar but not intrusive.
“If you ever feel uncomfortable at school,” he said, voice quieter now, “you can rely on me. I’d be glad to help you.”
The Psychic looked at him again, expression unreadable.
‘Translation: I want to keep you under observation.’
“…I manage,” they replied.
Another pause.
Light smiled, but this time the smile lingered a fraction longer than necessary, as if he were waiting for something—for gratitude, perhaps, or embarrassment.
Neither came.
Instead, the Psychic picked up the book he had handed them earlier and flipped through it absently.
The pages turned with soft, steady movements, completely unhurried.
Light watched them for a moment, then said lightly, “You’re very hard to read.”
The Psychic closed the book.
'So are you,' they answered, the Death Good the only one being able to hear.
Ryuk let out a low, amused hum.
Light’s eyes narrowed just slightly, though the smile never left his face.
“…Is that so?”
“Yes.”
Another silence settled between them, but this one felt different—not tense, but oddly unbalanced, as if one side of a conversation refused to move no matter how carefully the other pushed.
Light straightened and walked to the door.
“It’s getting late,” he said politely. “I’ll walk you out.”
“…You don’t need to.”
“I insist.”
They stepped into the hallway together. The house was quiet, the sound of their footsteps soft against the floor.
At the entrance, the Psychic slipped on their shoes and reached for the door.
Light spoke again, almost casually.
“I’m glad you came today.”
The Psychic paused.
‘You’re glad because you’re curious, not because you enjoyed my company.’
“…Thanks,” they said anyway.
They stepped outside into the cool evening air.
As the door closed behind them, the Psychic exhaled quietly.
‘Good grief, he reminds me of another nuisance.'
Inside, Light stood for a moment, thoughtful.
Ryuk drifted down beside him, grinning. “You were laying it on pretty thick there, Light.”
Light glanced at him. “…Was I?”
Ryuk laughed. “And it didn’t work at all.”
Light looked toward the closed door, his expression thoughtful rather than irritated.
“…Interesting,” he murmured.
Not because the conversation had gone badly.
But because, for the first time in a long while, someone had seen straight through him, and hadn’t been impressed in the slightest.
And that made him curious.

A/N; This is a draft I made for Chapter 2 but instead of the tension it was more comedic to say the least. Light flirting like teruhashi to attract and lure Saiki! Reader in but failing. This is a more comedic, non cannon version (unfortunately).
Yes, that other nuisance was the one and only perfect pretty girl.
