holy shit I feel the same way whenever I try to reach out and find people who like the same things as me... I think it ties into avpd in the aspect that there's potential that they don't like the thing in the same way as you? and there's potential rejection there... and because avpd has to do with feeling inferior so maybe you feel as if they must be a better fan and that their opinions must be better than yours but you don't agree with them so it becomes spiteful which leads to jealousy... I would try to keep in mind that your feelings for something are just as valid as other peoples and you're entitled to like something just as much as they are
!!! i think u hit the nail on the head !!! i never thought of it in terms of rejection but that’s definitely what i’m feeling. the spitefulness and jealousy is really intense as well but i wasn’t able to pinpoint that that’s what i was feeling! thank you so much, this genuinely is incredibly helpful!
and i will definitely try to keep that in mind. my coping strategy thus far is to distance myself from fandoms which is a very avoidant thing to do but obviously not great. i’ll definitely try to be more positive about it and remind myself of your advice and maybe in time i’ll internalize those thoughts
