“There is a lot of appeal in a Saiga shotgun.
The factory versions with their sporting style stock and diminished capacity magazines leave much to be desired. Some individuals and a few companies have made conversions to these shotguns.
Yet the reliability of them is more “miss than hit”. This is a consequence of shotgun rounds in a box magazine and a few peculiarities of the AK-based system.
That was until Judd Foster of Fostech decided to do something about it. His answer to the problem of the AK-based shotgun was the Origin-12.”

[Military Drum-roll]
The Izhmash Saiga-12 versus the Israeli Galil. As the page says, the shooting distance between these 2 is 60 meters, the chances of hitting your target at such a distance with a shotgun is really low since shotgun ammo was mostly designed to result in a spread. As the load from a shell goes further & further down range, it spreads more, most of the time missing the target. The only other shotgun load capable of traveling in a straighter line towards your target are Slugs, a slug is one solid projectile, having a better chance at hitting something at a farther distance. The Saiga-12 here uses Buckshot (or Birdshot), a spreadable load consisting of BBs, so she has no chance at hitting Galil, a rifle, who does have greater chances of hitting a target at a far distance & uses ammunition designed to send out one solid projectile in a straight line with the help of rifling in the barrel, in other words, sniping capabilities with good marksmanship

Saiga 12
Heavily modified semi-automatic Russian 12 gauge shotgun. This example has gone through the hands of Jim Fuller’s custom shop, Rifle Dynamics. Barrel was shortened and threaded to use the Silencerco Salvo 12 shotgun suppressor. A side-folding triangle stock was also added, which although compact, isn’t very comfortable which may explain padded cheek rest. (GRH)
Successful run of shooting different loads with the new Saiga 12! Cheap bird shot, heavier high brass loads, etc. Expect this beauty to be a regular sight on the page!
Gone shooting
This is my first time out with my recent rifle build, and it shot great today. Ejection angle was around 4:00. Very light recoil, smooth action, no malfunctions. Not bad for a first time builder, I'd say. Still need to zero the two sight systems, but that'll wait until I can get to a range and take my time.
Also shot my Saiga 12 bullpup today, and it was awesome. Doesn't cycle #7 1/2 from wally world, but I don't think any of them do out of the box, aside from the Vepr. Buckshot and slugs cycled very well, and the recoil is light. We're talking full length hunting shotgun light. She's a keeper.
I like the carry handle for something like this, but I do not like the sights that come on it. Gonna need to look into that.
