Beach Clean Up Tuesday 10th June, 2014 Sagg Main Beach - Bridgehampton, NY As the early morning sun began to radiate the water, the natural inhabitants of both the aquatic world and land went about their daily routine. However, this particular sunrise brought The Worldwide Psychos and a few their friends together. Not gathered here by coincidence, but here to participate in a "Beach Clean Up", an idea by George Williams (Member of Worldwide Psychos) to take some time to give back to the natural wonders and beauty of our world. Assisting with the efforts was Casey Evans, Ken Deeg (Members of the Psychos) and Derek Alegria (New Prospect of the Psychos). When they first got there it didn't seem that dirty, but once they started going trash just seemed to appear all over. Not sure if it's a normal sight we get used to seeing, or we think that is how it's supposed to be. Maybe we mentally block these things from our minds and feel like it's not our problem. As time went by and they got around to it, from a beach that seemed so clean, all 7 of them shockingly were able to fill 6 garbage bags at just one location in a couple of hours. The trash you see on the land ends up in the water and this leads to a list of things: • compromises the health of humans, wildlife and the livelihoods that depend on a healthy ocean; • threatens tourism and recreation, and the critical dollars they add to our local economies; • complicates shipping and transportation by causing navigation hazards; and generates steep bills for retrieval and removal. Unfortunately, what we see dirtying beaches and floating on the ocean’s surface is just the tip of the iceberg. Much more lies unseen beneath the surface and far away on the open water — but that doesn’t make it any less important. Come on down next week if you can, or when you go to the beach and see a piece of trash on the floor find a bin close by and place it in the right spot. Every little bit adds up, every small deed and kind act. We can do this together to make it all better for us all. Get familiar with us and learn more on our efforts.
