Parasite - Chapter 3
Reyes frowned slightly, as though trying to decide if she was scamming him, but leaned forward ever so slightly. “You're saying you can activate and use Remnant Technology? Like the Pathfinder? That you could access Kadara's vault and get the technology working for us?”
He suddenly sounded very serious.
“I can do all that and more, and I can do it better than the Pathfinder.” Sage grinned. “I don't come cheap, Mr. Vidal, I'll want a guarantee of silence and protection from the Initiative, a team to assist on Remnant digs, plus accommodation and rations, on top of my pay-”
Reyes laughed. “I'm not sure the Charlatan will believe that anyone is worth that, let alone some untested Initiative washout. Even one as pretty as you.”
“I'm worth it,” she said with conviction, ignoring the casual comment on her looks. “But if you don't believe me, you or someone from the Collective can take me to a Vault, and I'll show you just how good I am.”
He leaned back in his seat again and tilted his head, letting his gaze slowly wash over her. “I admit, I'm intrigued.”
Sage sipped more of the drink he'd bought her and set it down. “What do you have to lose?”
Reyes laughed softly. “Not as much as you do, I imagine.” He nodded, apparently making up his mind. “Okay, princesa, you show me what you can do, and I'll decide if you're worth recruiting, and maybe,” he leaned forward and gave her a charming smile, “when all of that is out of the way you'll let me buy you a drink?”
She was in.
