i had many feelings about it! i’ll try not to give away too much in case oomf wants to watch it but i really liked the art style, i’m very fond of 90’s anime and i just really liked the drawings for this one.

also i really enjoyed that the artwork emphasized the main characters’ traits, like during a sex scene when there’s a close up on Iason’s face and it tells you sm of how he perceives his relationship with Riki, way beyond just a sexual partner.

also Riki is really cool! i like that he’s so proud and loyal and feisty. he makes me quite sad too, ofc, but that’s all i can say here

plus, how i said in the tags of my post, we have strayed so far from the ancient texts!! i mean i’m no yaoi connoisseur, not one bit, but i know that some of the things i’ve seen out there don’t even try to glimpse at the level of intimacy shown in Ai no Kusabi. and that’s fair! they don’t have to all be like it, but i do feel like it’s a bit lost and forgotten, tho maybe i’m mistaken

but yeah i really liked it. it also made me very conflicted bc the relationship is not one i can simply root for, not by a long shot, but that also makes it way more interesting.

as for what you mention about fearing not being able to gather enough courage, believe me when i tell you that time is the strangest thing. i just barely realized i was trans at 22, and i’m still not out at work (don’t know if i’ll ever be), but the passage of time has done wonders for my gender identity and the way i socialize it, regardless of what cis people might assume. they might call me a girl, they may refuse to use my name, but my thoughts will always remain my own.

also, love is very strange too. i swear it totally snuck up on me, and i am aware of how lucky i was/am for that. but honestly you never know what could be around the corner. there’s a quote i really like that goes something like “you’ve yet to meet all of the people who are going to love you”. that goes for both friendships and romantic relationships if that’s what you desire. you never know who you might meet who will see you and love you as you are, for who you are.

according to the love languages thing, mostly words of affirmation and some physical touch (though i really need to build trust for this one bc i’m very shy in that regard). but yeah i think mostly i try to learn as much as possible about the other person, hearing about their day, their interests. oh and quality time! 🖤 doing anything together, even if we’re not talking during it, just being in their company is so precious to me
