Cassper Nyovest expresses disappointment in SA brands
Anyone who witness at Cassper Nyovestâs Fill Up FNB Stadium would know it wasnât an easy event. The historic event met a lot of challenges, sleepless nights, trials⌠name it before it was fulfilled.
At some point, it might have looked like stepping into a lake only to realize itâs way deeper than an ocean. This forced Cassper to almost sell off his cars.
The battle for sponsorship is never an easy memory for Cassper who remained practically silent about his disappointments in SA brands till the went is over. Eventually, Nyovest has spoken out on the lack of corporate support for local artists.
He said that an artist can go from playing on the biggest stage to moving back home with nothing because the industry is not sustainable.
Cassper claimed to have gone broke after having to largely foot the bill for his massive show last weekendâ with major sponsors only coming on board in the last few weeks leading up to the show.
Speaking to ENCAâ Cassper said his battle to find sponsors was a blessing in disguiseâ because it revealed how brands didnât care about artists.
âIt has to happen like this so that people can get an idea of how the South African industry works. If it didnât happen to me then they wouldnât see how much these brands that operate in our area donât care. They actually donât care. Those who are supportingâ we champion them.â
He said that artists and the industry needed to come together to fight big brands or face the prospects of seeing more artists go broke because they lacked corporate support.
âIt is such a sad thing that we have artists who operate for two or three yearsâ and after that they are back in the hood with nothing because the industry is not sustainable. You canât live on having shows every weekend. We need to make it sustainable and start filling up stadiums so that we can make the kind of money these other people make in our country.â
Cassperâs grievances are similar to those expressed by Lion King producer Lebo Mâ who claimed local brands prefer âwashed outâ international acts to South African talent.
âWhat really p**ses me off is that thereâs money in this countryâ but instead of investing in local actsâ weâd rather throw money at some washed-out act from the USA. People who canât even fill a f**king nightclub in the USA are paid top dollar to perform hereââ Lebo told Destiny Man in August.
