Rogers Sports and Media upfronts are apparently June 6. That should potentially give us an idea of what CityTV’s fall programming will look like. My prediction: though the US strikes should have them leaning harder into the Canadian content, they’ll still lean more as heavily into the reality crap because of licensing deals and because some of those franchises technically count as CanCon.
Season 4 started in early October, season 5 started in late September. In line with that pattern, I’d obviously bet on a late September/early October start.
Still have no idea what, if any, effect the ACTRA boycott of Rogers will have on programming, though there was some sort of agreement being worked on when I was scrolling Instagram the other day. Once again, I know very little about this topic and looking for more info only confuses me more.
I’m not counting on 20 episodes, simply based on a comment John made in a Cannes interview about ending the season at their 100th episode. (Can’t remember his exact wording.) That would mean a 16 episode season. Before you get up in arms, please remember that 1) I’m just speculating and 2) it all comes down to the dogs. Shooting a longer season has to be harder on them. As others have mentioned, it’s likely why some episodes of s5 were less Rex stunt-heavy.
Also am fairly certain they start production within the next few weeks.
