Ok, everyone. Time to weigh in. In the tube car when he thought he was about to be blown up, John said he forgave Sherlock for ... well, we all know what for. He sounded sincere, he was dying with no reason to lie, and the look Sherlock gave him when he was done was naked emotion, and if John was actually seeing him for once he could not have doubted that Sherlock’s reaction, at least, was real.

And I don’t think John would give or revoke something like forgiveness lightly. There’s his strong moral principle again.

But. It was forgiveness gleaned on false pretenses (ie Sherlock knew they weren’t about to blow up). And shortly afterward Sherlock laughed in John’s face about it. And several other mitigating circumstances that we’ll just call Series 3.
