The variegated thread is Dollarama embroidery floss. In the smaller examples, it's split in half (3 strands, about one skein per patch) and paired with #10 crochet thread. The larger is #3 thread (black) and a full 6 strands of the same embroidery floss (2 skeins, note colour change).
