You get no response beside two wide eyes looking up at you and a tail eagerly waving in the air, the fabric of your wife's favourite shirt clutched protectively between sharp teeth.
"I'm serious, Sparky," you try to reason with the dog in front of you, slowly inching forward. "If you ruin that shirt Wanda is going to kill me and then who will be left to feed you?"
You take another step forward, almost close enough to reach out and grab what you had been chasing for the last hour, but the floorboard creaks beneath your feet and Sparky once again takes off through the house.
You start to chase him and that's when you hear the front door open, Wanda's voice echoing through the house to announce her arrival home. You were so screwed.

You snort in response to the lecture Steve had just bestowed upon you, trying to contain your amusement at the whole situation.
When you had awoken this morning, you hadn't expected Captain America himself to offer his guidance on how to win over the object of your affection and yet, here you were.
"Thanks, Steve," you clap him on the shoulder, before walking over to the doorway, "but you're a bit too late on the advice. I've already asked Wanda out and we have a date tonight."
This time you can't hold back your laughter at the stunned look on his face as you walk down the hall, eager to get ready for what you hoped was the first of many dates with Wanda.
Improvising a little because I think autocorrect may have got the better of you here...
"Why cant you be like her ?"
The words feel like a slap to the face, the sincerity behind them a knife to the chest.
You don't know how to respond, all your previous energy from the fight leaving your body, an icy cold feeling left behind in your veins.
Wanda looks stunned as well, like she can't believe the words that left her mouth, like she hadn't just compared you to her ex in the middle of the worst argument you the two of you had experienced as a couple.
"I'm trying," you reply brokenly, ashamed to admit the lengths you had gone to to become her ideal partner, the things you had changed about yourself to make Wanda love you.
"It's not enough," her response makes you crumble from the inside out, her words tearing you down until there was nothing left.
You whisper the words into the dark, careful not to wake the sleeping form beside you.
Your heart aches with longing as you watch Wanda sleep, her closed eyes flickering as she dreamed, her smile peaceful and serene.
You loved her already, more than you thought it were possible to love another human being, and she loved you in return. But it was behind closed doors and in secret.
The words you really meant were caught in your throat, your deepest desire that you were too scared to voice.
I wonder what it would be like to love you out of the shadows.
The questioned comes as a whisper, Wanda's voice almost too quiet to hear over the muffled sound of the chaos behind the door.
You took a deep breath, nodding once and earning a smile from the witch. She raises her hand, three fingers shown to begin the countdown as you adjust the weapon in your hands.
Her fingers begin to drop and as she lowers the last one, you kick the door open and begin firing your gun as you rush forward.
"No surprise those two were hiding in the closet," you hear Natasha complain as her vest is hit, the zapping sound signifying she had been eliminated from the laser tag game but your attention has already turned to your next victim.

"I was drunk, and it was just a mistake. It didn't mean anything!"
"I was drunk, and it was just a mistake. It didn't mean anything!"
You take a deep breath before you respond, trying to control the emotions swirling within you.
Wanda stood in front of you, her eyes wide and pleading, her shirt discarded on the floor.
You look at the mark on her chest, unmistakeable even in the dim light of the room. You feel the sting of betrayal at the sight, something you never thought she would make you feel.
"Okay, I forgive you," you say at last, watching the relief cross her face. "But seriously Wanda, how are you going to explain the 'Team Jacob' tattoo to everyone?"
I should have just sent you an angsty one in the first place...
"I remember when we used to be like that..."
But then I'd lose the fun of the challenge. Why deny me the opportunity.
...
"I remember when we used to be like that..."
Your look up and follow Wanda's eyes, noticing the young couple walking hand in hand by the pond, the ducks eagerly swimming up to them in hope of food.
You smile as the memories flood back to your of one of your first dates with Wanda. You had been so nervous as you walked side by side, but then she had taken your hand in hers and you had felt invincible.
"We could still have that," you say in response, offering her your hand.
"Don't be ridiculous," Wanda slaps your hand away, "we're far too old for that kind of stuff now. Let's get back to the house before the grandkids notice we're gone."
Your sigh but follow your wife anyway, grateful for the lifetime of memories that you shared with her.
This one ended up being longer than expected too. But it was too cute to cut it short.
"Can you pass the strawberries?" you ask, eyes closed as you rest your head on the cushion, the soft picnic rug rubbing against the skin of your bare legs that were exposed by your shorts.
"What's the magic word?" Wanda taunts and you crack open one eye to see her leaning above you, strawberry hanging from her hand.
"Abracadabra," you joke, eyes fixed on the tempting looking cream that coated the red fruit.
"Try again," Wanda tries to be stern but you can hear the smile in her voice.
"Hocus pocus," you can't stop your own smile now, the joy of the day seeping into your very core.
"Nope," you hear in reply, the strawberry shaken in the air in warning. "One more guess."
"Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo," you say, squealing as Wanda lets go of the fruit, the red blur shooting straight for your face.
You feel the cream hit your cheek, sliding down onto the cushion below you. You can feel the cold substance cling to your face as you sit up, Wanda's giggles echoing through the backyard.
"Oh that's it," you growl, trying to sound menacing. "You're going to get it now."
Wanda tries to get up but you're too quick, catching her around the waist and pulling her into you. You waste no time in rubbing your cream covered cheek across her chest, thankful for the scoop of her dress giving you access an ample amount of skin.
Wanda's shrieks of laughter mix with your own chuckles as the two of you fall to the ground, you landing on top of her with a thud.
"You made a mess," Wanda pouts at you, her bottom lip sticking out in the most tempting way.
"Well I guess I'll have to help you clean up then," you smirk at her, running your finger across the top of her breasts and delighting in her soft gasp as you place the digit in your mouth.
You're just about to close the distance and capture her lips with your own when you hear the sound of feet on the deck behind you, a throat clearing obviously.
You both sit up, giggling like a couple of school girls caught behind the bleachers.
"Why are you covered in cream?" you hear Billy say, his voice full of confusion. "I thought we weren't supposed to play with food?"
You look up to see the twins standing against the railing and you want to burst out laughing again. They both have their hands on their hips, one eyebrow raised as they muster as much authority as four year olds possibly could.
"Yeah," Tommy chimes in, wagging his finger at the two of you. "And don't laugh so loud, we're trying to watch Bluey!"
With that, the pair run back into the house, little feet slapping against the ground.
"Come on," you say, standing up and offering your wife a hand. "Let's pack this up."
"But I was enjoying our date," Wanda pouts again as she places her hand in yours.
You pull her to her feet quickly, pressing your lips against her in a chaste kiss, wary of any eyes that might be on you.
"Well by my calculations, we still have about twenty minutes before they'll get bored of their show," you drop your voice lower, sending Wanda what you hoped was a sultry look. "I think I can use that time helping you get cleaned up in the shower."
