I think the alliance from Firefly/Serenity either (a)eventually got a hold of item 17 (aka the crazy gas) and that they could reformat it and failed,  (b) has been infiltrated by hydra like shield was or (c) is hydra.  I know which one Mal would love to believe. 

hi, i'm really sorry if you (or anyone else) were spoiled for any new characters. i want to clarify that i put that particular one as spoilers because the other roles have ALL been talked about openly and frequently by the cast (except the othre new addition which i maybe should have tagged also sorry) and official twitter whereas that particular role has not. also all posts are tagged with spoilers and as stated on the sidebar this not a spoiler free blog, but once again i'm sorry if this spoiled anybody.
