Hey, I have a kinda legit question. So I see you're very anti-Ryden which is chill, it's a ship not everyone has to support/believe in it. However, it makes me wonder how you feel about Ryan and Dan and the times Dan was referred to as Ryan's boyfriend and the other evidence pointing to them being in a relationship/Ryan being queer.
Hi! Thanks for the message.
Ryan and Dan are both cool guys, and they have an adorable friendship. We feel much the same way about Ryan/Dan as we do Ryden. Personally, we think it’s creepy to ship real people, but we are not going to tell people what to do or how to think. If believing in this relationship makes a person happy, then so be it. You do you.
As for Ryan’s queer identity, we here on Pathetic have a very particular viewpoint that we want to get across. When someone tells you their sexual orientation, it needs to be respected… no matter what. Whether they identify as Straight, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Ace, or anything in between, it’s all important and worthy of respect.
Ryan very clearly wants to be seen as heterosexual and has only publicly dated women. If Ryan wants to identify as straight, the only polite thing to do (in our own opinion) is to accept that. Also, having a close and affectionate friendship does not always point to a romantic relationship. Ryan in particular is like that with almost all of his friends, male and female.
The three of us on this blog are all very different in terms of queerness, and each of us have had difficulties with expressing our sexuality and being misunderstood or forced into roles. (For example, Mod C is the Token Straight One, but has had people trying to force a bisexual identity onto her for really strange reasons, AKA shipping her with Mod M. This is a real thing and was very bothersome in high school.) So, we all often feel sympathy for Ryan when people essentially force an identity or role onto him that he isn’t necessarily comfortable with.
If Ryan ever decides to actually come out (for real, without immediately taking it back), then we’ll discuss his queer identity. But until that day, as far as any of us are concerned, he is heterosexual.
Thanks again! This topic is very near to our hearts, obviously. Hahaha
