A little late, but I spent Saturday afternoon celebrating Free Comic Book Day at Ryan's Comics in Murrieta, CA. This was my fifth year going to Ryan's for the event. I was a little disappointed with the entertainment--silent teenagers dressed as Power Rangers and Spider-Man, going around for photos and high fives, but never engaging the crowd with something as simple as actual dialogue. Not like years past. Absent, too, was Ryan's dad, for reasons unknown to me. All the same, I got some good swag, including an autograph from David Baron for my copy of New 52 Green Lantern #1, a small stack of Free Comic Book Day fodder, and, as in every year previous, I took home a prize from the raffle. This year it was a copy of Silver Surfer #6. The value won't break the bank, but it was free, and the feeling I get from winning something far outweighs whatever intrinsic value it might have held for me. I always win something there. Still my favorite comic book store on the planet, also. That's about enough out of me. I'll be hitting up the shop again on Friday to see what's new. See you in the next panel! J. Schiek
