From the artist behind Montreal’s Ryan Playground, Geneviève Ryan Martel releases her premier single under her newly-formed Terrain de Jeux (TDJ) persona. Her premier single, “Quest for Glory” though a purely instrumental effort, substitutes its absence of lyrics through an emotive depth in production. A slow, lounging solemn that quickly builds into an animated race of hi-tempo palpitation, the track fuses together its melodic downtempo to the industrial grit of its trance-like progression. Percolating through its effervescent fizzle of arpeggiated sound and acidic synthesizer, the track walks between high-strung emotion and the reflective calm of its gentle piano tranquility. Speaking explicitly to the track’s depth in melodic emotion and to her recently released EP “TDJ001″ Geneviève had this to say on her Terrain de Jeux debut:

“‘TDJ001’ just released this morning. It's a weird feeling, I wrote this EP in a totally different world but now it feels like it's even more relevant to me than it ever was. I need to hear something that sounds hopeful. Something that allows myself to be optimistic. I believe that we have to dream, despite all the shit we have to deal with. To still believe in things that are bigger than the vision we have of ourselves. To be how we want to be, allowed to feel like anything is possible. 

It's a little overwhelming for me to share this as this song represents so much for me, on so many levels. The title speaks for itself. I kind of had this ongoing feeling of being in a race against myself  since I was a little kid. Most of the time, this urge to push and win resulted in amazing things but it also dragged me down. It's about choosing the right pace. Feel it and believe in it. Not burning the fuel all at once. It's a lifelong quest to get this pace right. I managed to find my pace, for the time of this song.

Happiness is still relevant. I had so much fun making these songs. I had fun playing them out when it was still a thing. I have fun listening to them. You can't imagine how seriously I take having fun! I really hope that this EP brings you positive energy. Please have fun.”
