Thereās a bit of an art to taking the right āguitarist jumping off drumsā shot, the main question being at what point do you actually take the shot? Too soon and theyāll just look like their hovering over the drums, too late and you get the landing but miss all the acrobatics. Iāll admit Iām not good at it, more often than not I miss the action moment of the jump and get left with less awe inspiring shots. I was kinda expecting some theatrics from The Grizzled Mighty at Bumbershoot and stayed for the full set, but personally I donāt like sitting in the pit the whole time because I donāt need to be taking shots the whole time and also Iād just be standing there in the way of people who paid to see the band. When I saw Ryan Granger climb up on Whitney Pettyās drum set I was standing just outside the pit and immediately started running back in, I pretty much missed it but did snag this shot on my way back in. Funnily enough, of all the times Iāve been in prime position to get the good ājump off drumsā shot, the one time I was in shitty position was the only time I got a real good shot.
