Ryan Bubnis’s “Slow & Steady” at Stephanie Chefas Projects.

Opening on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at Stephanie Chefas Projects in Portland, Oregon is artist Ryan Bubnis’s solo exhibition, “Slow & Steady.”

“Slow & Steady” investigates themes of patience, progress, perseverance, vulnerability, and mindfulness. Inspired by DIY culture, Bubnis aims to create images that connect with viewers from every possible walk of life on a visceral level. The title of the show makes reference to the artist's own methodology and unique visual language, which evolves and expands at a purposefully gradual pace. Presented alongside familiar graphics and icons is a measured variety of new shapes and forms. Employing a restrained palette, Bubnis allows himself to play, interpret and explore. He invites you to do the same.

The exhibition will be on view until October 5th, 2019.

Opening on Friday, April 6th, 2018 at Stephanie Chefas Projects in Portland, Oregon is artist Ryan Bubnis’ solo exhibition, “From the Ground Up.”

“From the Ground Up” is a striking assemblage of new paintings, textiles, and ceramics from the Portland based artist.  Bold, graphic, and whimsical in approach, Bubnis' work harkens back to the creative spirit of his youth, exploring personal themes of skate culture, music and human connectivity.  Concurrently, the persistence of influences from DIY culture, illustration and art history broadens the iconographic spectrum, bringing us all along for the ride.

“From the Ground Up” will be on view until April 28th, 2018.

IN THE STUDIO | RYAN BUBNIS (PDX)

This week we take a peek into the creative space of multidisciplinary artist Ryan Bubnis whose works are bold, colorful, fun, graphic and filled with good vibes. When Ryan isn’t working as an Assistant Professor at The Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, he is creating his awesome art in his studio garage, where he keeps “one side of the studio ... dedicated to traditional drawing and painting,” and the other for digital work. 

Strangest thing he’s ever seen from his studio? A cat vs. squirrel wrestling match. 

What’s the weirdest or strangest tool or souvenir and why? I started saving old paint stir sticks and making pieces out of them. I like the idea of seeing something familiar from a different perspective. Lately I’ve been collecting all my used up pencil stubbies.
