OC: Ryan Aries (Red Ranger)
For the most part, Ryan is a quiet and frankly dull sort of guy; he doesn't show much enthusiasm for anything, and prefers to keep his head down and go with the flow. However, on the rare occasion he does feel an impulse to actually do something, he tends to act on it without hesitation. This most often comes up when he sees somebody in imminent danger; Ryan's immediate response is to put himself in harm's way in their place. He has little concern for his own safety.
Ryan is, or at least was, a huge fan of martial arts. His interest started with action movies, and in his early teens he began learning judo from a friend of the family, as part of a somewhat casual group. The sense of discipline and community he found as part of that group meant a lot to him, and being a martial artist became an integral part of his self-identity. However, a few years later, the group stopped meeting due to various financial and scheduling difficulties. And without the community, Ryan could no longer seem to muster the discipline he had come to pride himself on--which, in his mind, meant he'd never really had it and that it didn't count. This was devestating to his self-esteem, and made it hard for him to find joy or passion in any aspect of his life.
Ryan was not only the last to accept the offer to become a ranger; he was the only one to actually turn it down. Even when he agreed to join the team, he insisted that it was only until they could find someone better to replace them. Ryan felt that he was likely to let down or endanger the team if they put their trust in him. And there are certainly a lot of situations where the others have to work to rein in his impulses and keep his recklessness in check. However, when the rest of the team is indecisive or hesitant, Ryan's willingness to jump in and take action can be crucial.
