Lonely Man (A Red Wings RP Tale)
{Its been awhile I know. Hopefully life lets me tell more stories here again. Here is a little story coming out of a recent RP. Timeline let’s say its vaguely present. Let me know if you like it.}
It was somewhere, it could have been anywhere. The quiet club bore nothing much of a regional look. While it was within the lands of the Garlean Empire, its distance from the capitol left it more to the style of those who came and went along the crossroads from Imperial lands to the Eorzean lands of the south. Here the war was something that happened elsewhere. Here people lived ordinary lives and cared little for the world and more for their own struggles.
The electric lights held a dim effect over the darkly lit bar, their hold strongest upon the stage. The light seemed drawn to the sultry and soft voice found standing easily upon the stage along the back wall. Her voice called to the few warm bodies sitting about. Their lives of hardship eased by her beauty and her song.
The soft creak of the door went unnoticed by all but the bartender, who silently nodded with his trademark liar's smile. Something seemed dishonest with him, not in the common way, but dishonest in his happiness. His eyes were so sad, they gave him away. The man who had entered and nodded back. Despite the feeling he gave off Anton had grown to liked the bartender. He approached his usual stool and sat sideways. He liked watching the singer in here while he talked with the only man in this fucking settlement that he actually liked. "Evening Lu." he said to the bartender as casually as he did every night.
"Anton, usual?" he replied with that self same liar's smile. Anton wasn't sure sometimes if Lu liked him or not, but lonely men cannot be picky with friends. "Please. How long has Edyis been on?" The one-eyed barman poured Anton's drink as he replied. "It's her second song I think. Not sure really, been payin' attention to that redhead at the the last table. I like'em a bit bigger than little Edy." Anton liked Lu, but hated his accent. He had been working out of Ala Mhigo for a few years and the bartender's Gyr accent could get grating if Lu got chatty. Opposite that was Edyis' accent. She sounded like every girl he had ever loved all in one. She wasn't Garlean but she sure as hells sounded like she was. He would do anything to just sit and listen to her forever.
As she finished her song she caught his eyes with a quick wave. He held his drink up as a salute to her. She began her next song, but he could swear, her eyes never left his.
As the song drifted out over the sad room of sad people, Anton found himself drifting with it. Lu washed the glasses left by a few academy kids that had left them with no tip. Anton sighed and then chuckled at his friend's irritated face. "She is something, isn't she Lu? I think I'm in love." Lu continued his work, part of his mind still on those damn kids, "Who, Edy? She's a nice girl, sure. But you ain't the only one in love, mate." he said, pointing out at the other love sick shacks in the bar, inspecting the songstress and her tailor's handiwork. Anton felt a ping of jealousy. "Well they don't feel like I do Lu. I really think I love her. And the way she talks to me, I think she loves me too." Lu's scarred eyebrow cocked as he grinned wide, "Oh? Love now is it? Well good luck brother on that one." Anton waved to his friend, "No Lu I'm serious. In fact she left me this." he said as he handed the bartender a small note. The stationary was like tissue paper almost, a hint of cherry over it. The bartender's eyes got as wide as his smile as he read it, "Well, isn't that all lady-like." he chuckled as he handed it back. "There are published monthly books that put letters like that in between their pictures mate. You gonna run off together or do I have time to plan a bachelor party?" Anton laughed, less at what was said and more because of the kindness of his friend.
Edyis finished her song and with a sweet wave she excused herself and took her break, making her way to the bar and the two men there. "Can I get a spring water, Lu? The smoke in here is so bad tonight." Lu winked at her, "Sure, Love." She sat and ran her hands down her dress, smoothing it before she turned and smiled into Anton's eyes, "I was afraid I had scared you off." Anton blushed despite himself as Lu answered for him, "Not with that little love note. Running from that would make me question this fella." Edyis fiend anger as she playfully slapped Anton's leg, "Gods you let him read it?" Anton was flustered, "I...uh." All of it faded away when she laughed. "It's fine hon." Anton smiled with relief. Her intention was clear. She wanted him to be with her.
She had come to the bar a month or so before from the south he had heard, not long after Lu had bought the place, a long line of owners in this dead end settlement. Anton himself worked for the Empire, though his work was unusual. He lived here, but before the loss of Ala Mhigo by the southern insurgences he had operated as a resource procurer. The Gyr locals had not paid much attention to him. He had not worn a uniform and had only two eyes. He even paid for his supplies. So after the fall, the Empire recognized that he would not be noticed coming and going as he had always done. He did as he always did, head south, gather resources, and come home, only now he had his men tell him things. The would tell him of soldiers and numbers, of details, and he would tell those above him. A generous finders fee now made its way into his monthly salary. He would take her from the eyes of this bar with that money. He would save her.
"Anton... mate." He snapped out of his thoughts as Lu called him. He looked startled. Edyis laughed, "You work too hard hon, dozing off?" He laughed, "Just lost in thought." Edy smiled and stood, "I need to take care of something in my dressing room before I go back on Anton. Can you help me with that?" The man nearly fell out of his chair as she spoke over her shoulder, walking to the back rooms. Anton felt a panic like he had not felt since a young man. He looked to his friend as if to ask him the question of existence. Lu smiled, polishing a glass, "Anton buddy, if you need me to tell you what'ta do here, then we may have'ta rethink our friendship." Anton nodded and jumped to his feet, all but running.
Lu smiled as he looked around and counted the heads still in the bar, "1...2...3...... let me see, 7?" he thought to himself as he walked over the only door in or out and bolted it. Most died so fast they didn't have time to realize what was happening. All but Anton, his screams made it clear he knew, and gave the other patrons something to focus on as their own brutal ends found them.
They stood there in the light snow watching the tavern burn for a bit. He had given her his coat and held her close, he was better suited to cold then she was. As they watched Erik commented to Clio, "You ok?" She nodded, feeling nothing for the man she had killed, but for something else, "It was just nice, you know? Being here, sort of away from the way our lives are. To see sort of what could have been...Never-mind, its silly." He held her firmer, "No it is not. I understand it. It is just...." She turned to him, "What?" Erik smiled, "I will miss the singing. Maybe I should open a bar." Clio playfully smacked him, "Oh shove it, let's go home before I freeze to death." The both smiled and walked off into the night.
My biggest pet peeve
It really bothers me. When I see someone on Balmung I haven't seen in a while and get to talking to them, only to hear the same thing I always hear ...
1. Thought you didn't like me.
2. I heard you were an asshole.
3. I didn't want to bother you.
This sort of thing has left me pretty lonely. I had more then one friend actually tell me they "had heard" I had talked shit about them. They didn't know if it was true but instead of talking to me about it they cut me off for a year until the other party told them they were just spreading shit about be because "they didn't like my attitude and wanted to hurt me".
The peeve is that. Not being direct with me. Ghosting me without a word not for something I did but from rumor. I have a few friends who stuck with me. They know the real life me and know if I like someone enough to socialize then I'm loyal. If I don't like you, you will know it, not hear about it.
My real life has been very rocky the last few years. If we are being real I had a mental breakdown, nearly was homeless with a wife and kids, had to move cross country twice just to survive. I could have used some of the people who let rumors push them off.
I don't go to bars, don't hang out with people. Lack of money meant if I had extra it went to the family. My only treat was this game. But I'm rambling. Not sure why I wrote this besides I read someone on Tumblr today saying something similar but I can't remember who.
Sultanate Government Personnel Data
Name: Eirikir Lumiere (Erik) Mynhier Codename: Desertbreaker Service: Immortal Flames Unit: Second Flame Brigade, Air Squadron Red (Nickname: The Red Wings) Rank: Flame Captain Age: 38 Race: Hyur Highlander (50%), Midlander (25%), Elezen Wildwood (25%) Marital Status: Married (Cliodhna Egohan, First Flame Lieutenant) Children: Vanya Caladhiel, (First Flame Lieutenant), Lenna Faris Mynhier Nationality: Thanalanian (formerly Gyr Abanian) Special Notes: Prosthetic Right Eye, Devout of Halone, Sabophobic
Profile History
{The following is a historical record and psychological profile Eirikir Lumiere Mynhier, here after refered to as “Subject” or “Mynhier”.}
Mynhier was born in the Gyr Abanian capitol city of Ala Mhigo in the year 1544 to Ulrich Mynhier (FILE NOTE: Subject’s father was a member of the Corpse Brigade, investigation into possible compromise found no unusual activity.) and Heather (nee. Fortemps) Mynhier.
In 1557 Subject was present for the Imperial invasion of Ala Mhigo. (FILE NOTE: Despite severe trauma at the hands of the Garlean Empire as well as numerous direct and clandestine encounters which have see the Subject receive many commendations, Subject’s spouse is a known former Imperial Operative currently allied to the Sultanate Government, made possible by an arrangement from Immortal Flames in exchange for tactical and technical information.) It was during the city’s counter offensive Subject’s father was killed.
One of the Subject’s two known siblings (Tietra Mynhier) was lost during the invasion. Subject’s mother extracted Mynhier, as well as, according to record, Subject’s maternal grandfather (Tellah Fortemps {FILE NOTE: Data Classified}), as well as two children from another family who lived in the Subject’s household, Cian Cadmus (FILE NOTE: Second Flame Lieutenant, MIA, medical test confirm Cain Cadmus shares fraternity with Mynhier through the Subject’s father.) and Lenna Cadmus. Subject’s mother was also responsible for bringing all listed to Gridania and negotiating sanctuary for the survivors with Stillglade Fane.
In 1560 Subject left The Black Shroud and relocated to Ul'dah, joining a mercenary unit (Crimson Watch) based there. Subject served with distinction both before and after sanctioned ties were established with the Sultanate Government. After sanctioned status, the unit’s specialty of covert action attracted the attention of the Thanalanian government, and the Subject’s record was reviewed and marked for possible commission with the implementation and resurrection of the Immortal Flames.
During this time the Subject’s was implemented in operations including the invasion of Castrum Novum (Operation Details: CLASSIFIED), as well as the Battle at Carteneau (Operation Details: CLASSIFIED). The results of the Carteneau lead to the full sanctioned status of the Crimson Watch, with full integration of the unit and the majority of its staff into the Immortal Flames. Subject’s rank prior to the integration (First Lieutenant) was carried over (First Flame Lieutenant). Subsequently the death of the Commanding Officer of the Crimson Watch, Ser. Juliette Monroe (Sultansworn, Posthumous: Flame Captain) as a result of the battle, making the Subject’s rank Flame Captain and granting command of the unit via Field Promotion.
The Crimson Watch was reorganized immediately, and re-designated Immortal Flames Squadron Red (later Immortal Flames Air Squadron Red), know by the unit’s handle designation “The Red Wings”. The primary missions following Immortal Flames integration were and are covert in nature, however over time the unit has changed and expanded in mission with the introduction of the unit’s five airships as well as technology and expertise obtained from the unit’s clandestine activities on behalf of IF Command and the Sultanate Government.
(UPDATE): Following the events of Operation: Black Eagle (Operation Details: CLASSIFIED), Subject and his remaining unit were granted permission to open selective recruitment.
Educational Data
The Subject has through both military experience as well as academic pursuits, has become very well educated. Maintaining a large base of general knowledge, Subject counts their primary subject mastery as Aeronautics, Military Tactics, Alchemy, and Geological Survey. The subject also maintains basic knowledge in Mammet Theory, Void Theory, Undead Theory, Conjury, and Industrial Manufacturing.
As of this date, Subject maintains a Master rank in the Alchemist Guild of Ul’dah. This rank was achieved following the Calamity. After his induction to the Immortal Flames and promotion to Flame Captain, Subject felt it was wise to “round himself out” beyond military knowledge and began to pursue teachers and classes in his spare time. It was during this time he began his studies in the Alchemist Guild, reaching the rank of Master five years later. (NOTE: Subject’s rank in the guild allowed him to enter his daughter into the guild, who has since become a medical doctor) Subject’s chemical specialty is in a non-medical branch, industrial chemicals and compound reactions.
Both Aeronautics and Military Tactics are an obvious result of his military career. Aeronautics was due in large part to his Unit’s high use of airships. While his Military Tactics, his knowledge of various weapons, as well as large and small strategies are all a result of various commanders, trainers, and leaders through his career.
Geological Survey however is both military and academic in origin. Geology became important to his duties for a year when his unit acted as an engineer corp aiding in natural disasters. To further his knowledge he sought study with the Miner’s Guild, gaining a mastery of land surveying and a basic understanding of geology in general.
Of his lesser knowledge, Mammet Theory is his favored subject. Beginning study at the Goldsmith Guild of Ul’dah as early as seventeen years old, due entirely to his encountering of, and befriending of the mammet Montblanc. Void and Undead Theory are required learning for any armed member of the Sultanate due to the high rate of encounter in Thanalan. Subject studied both subjects in the Arrzaneth Ossuary and the Sultansworn Headquarters respectfully.
His knowledge of Conjury is due entirely to his mother who was a member of the Conjurer’s Guild in Gridania for three years and a long practicing Conjurer before that.
Operational Data
The Subject maintains multiple duties tied to his service indirectly. These duties include, but are not limited to maintaining security of high level cargo, consulting the various Guilds of Ul’dah on request of Flame Command, maintaining open supply and diplomatic lines with contacts in the “Brothers of Ash”, and maintaining active support services (commissary, exchange, chaplain, shipping, postal, banking, and medical services) in his base of operations, Baron Hall.
Technical Data
{Due to the Subject’s unit’s technical expertise, Subject has been augmented using experimental technology based off of Garlean technology, due entirely to combat injuries.
Subject is also in possession of various devices, also based almost entirely by Garlean technology. The exception being two devices which use aethernet and linkpearl technology respectively.}
Crystal Eye
Subject lost their right eye due to a combat injury. An eye was crafted under classified contract with the Alchemist and Goldsmith Guilds under the supervision of the Immortal Flames. The eye is based on aetheric theory and a salvaged Garlean medical scanning device. Called the Long Yield Bilateral Resonance Apparatus or L.Y.B.R.A. for short, the device allows the user to scan a target and receive basic medical information. Though originally for medical use it also has combat potential, such as detecting living organisms hidden by magic, technology, or solid objects with an active range of twenty-five fulms. Once the eye is in place in the socket, its crystalline form self glamours by attuning to the Subject’s aetheric aura, making it look real. The aetheric link also allows the eye to function as a normal eye, granting the Subject 20/20 vision in his right eye.
Hearing Aid/Internal Linkpearl
An implanted linkpearl in the Subject’s right ear that allows for full hands-free use of his pearl, as well as at will enhanced hearing, allowing the Subject to hear at a high distance or pinpoint on a single voice in a crowd. Originally augmented due to hearing loss from a ruptured eardrum, the pearl itself was engineered to be undetectable by common scanning devices, and encrypts communications going in and out. The pearl also has basic tap features, allowing the user to tap into non-encrypted channels. This however requires government sanction.
The Red Wings Crest
A company emblem patch worn by members of the unit. Inside it however is a complicated aetheric construct device that utilizes both stored and ambient fire aether to construct what resembles a bird made of fire. The construct is nearly silent and resistant to conventional forms of detection. Though it seems living the construct is not. The ambient aether is used in the formation and no matter how much is present, no amount of aether can extend the charge in the patch. As a result the patch only has enough energy to maintain the construct for six minutes descending, and four minutes ascending, making the constructs only viable as a “ship to shore” transport. After use the patch recharges off the ambient fire aether in the present environment. At maximum charging, ambient charging takes four hours. Charging on a charge device requires only one hour.
Tipping Scales Earrings
A pair of earrings emblazoned with the seal of the Immortal Flames. Both earrings together form a small but powerful explosive device. The right holds half of the chemical mix and the charger, the left the other half and the fuse. Removed and pressed back to back creates the explosive which the Subject can use effectively to enter or exit a structure, remove small threats, or start a larger chain reaction as needed.
Tipping Scales Bracelet
A multi functional device that allows the Subject to conjure holographic displays allowing him to see critical data on the fly. Also embedded is a small emergency device that allows the Subject limited access to the Aethernet Teleportation System. The device is limited as in it can only be used in short range (around five hundred yalms) and only to return to an airship equipment with a receiver. It also only maintains enough of a charge for a single one-way use.
Tipping Scales Ring
A simple ring embedded with a simple heating element powered by a few grains of fire aether crystals. A common issue to Immortal Flames Officers, the self heating ring is used to sign and seal important documents. Subject’s ring has been modified, allowing the ring to burn at a much higher temperature, allowing it to act as a cutting tool.
CLOSING FILE REMARKS
It is the opinion of this profiler, after reviewing all relevant data that Subject Mynhier is fit for active duty and command. However due to numerous trauma both physical and psychological, it is my recommendations that the Subject be examined fully for any signs of functional deterioration.
Also a full review of First Flame Lieutenants Egohan and Caladhiel in regards to possible corruption due to their unusual backgrounds as well as any undo sway they may have over the Subject. This seems prudent due to the Subject’s access to classified intelligence.
(UPDATE): A recent operation as well as discreet observations have shown the predicted psychological deterioration in the Subject. Further review will be required.
Erik's Personal Journal
"I am unsure what my next step should be.... that is untrue. I do know, I am afraid is all. The time has come though. The Ivory Tower's information as well as what Vanya saw.... there is no denying what is.
This thing that has hung over my soul stays with me still. I can still not tap into its power, and its presence still limits my aether to practically nothing. Years of training gone in a blink. It is frustrating.
On top of that the term of sanction is up. It would seem obvious to renew it but I find I am hesitant. I joined the mercenary armies to feed myself as much as to help Ala Mhigo one day. With the land of my birth free, I find that the will to fight on has left me after twenty years a soldier. I have reclaimed some wealth left in Gyr for me. I could very well not renew and use that money to buy up the whole of the surplus, ships, building, and all. Something to consider.

X-Men - FFXIV Edition
Blue Mage is secretly a way for the Devs to sell FFXIV to Disney as an X-Men videogame lol.
Its just talking... Episode 0
(Ok so this post is a little lite I grant you. Its sort of the dirty rough start something like this needs, getting all the exposition out of the way. The goal going forward will be in-depth explorations of Erik’s motives. The action of spy romps and evil seeds can get a bit much so this will be the slower pallet cleanser to frame the other stories and give reasons for actions. I look forward to writing for this and hope you all like it,)
Erik arrived at the office at close to half past tenth bell. He had been ordered to begin seeing this person after his last analysis. His Commander trying to soften the news, “Its just talking Captain.” Despite the reasons for his going he had come to enjoy his weekly hour, despite his feelings at the start.
He was soon showed in to the now familiar room. The sandstone floor and golden brown walls common enough in Ul’dah. The furnishings were in the Oasis style, a soft off-white to play off the walls. The lights were soft and there was a hint of spice to the air. “Hello Erik, if you will take a seat we can begin.”
It was often hard for non-Lalafell to discern the age of a given Lalafell, Doctor Nani. Nanani Nani was very obviously old. Erik had wondered when they met how many ages she had seen... if she was older then the sands... and a number of other defensive things
Erik half laid on the Oasis couch as she began to prod, “So how was your week?” she began. He tried to relax and over-analyze before remembering that he was not suppose to do that, “It has been good... quiet. We have been catching up on some of our lesser projects. Our emergency decent devices keep over heating and we cant get the turnover time down. I was ordered to look into augmenting the device through a living host, an animal, to extend the effects.” The councilor looked up, “You are doing it again. I highly doubt your superiors specifically ordered you to try animal testing. As I have explained in the past this is a safe place for you Erik. You and or your team realized that your technology would work more efficiently that way and moved to do so. Just because some would find that offensive doesn’t mean you must pass the blame to your chain of command.”
Erik did not make eye contact, He knew the Dunefolk would stop him as he spoke the words automatically. “Erik, let’s look a bit deeper into this.” Erik looked up, “The animal testing?” Doctor Nani shook her head, “No, your need to displace blame on somethings and not others.”
They talked for a time on the topic until, “Wait, we will have to stop here today.” Erik stood up and approached and shook her hand. On his way out of the office he thought deeply on all that had been said.
My Hero.... (A GIF Game)
Just for fun post a gif (or picture) of the most influential character to you in fiction. Then in a few words explain your pick. As always please tag me so I can read them all.
He-Man was my hero and in a way a parent. In a house of abuse and drug use, the image of a guy who was a friend to all, never secretly bad, and who always gave parental advice in the PSAs gave something for a scared 5 year old to hold on to. People think I'm joking when I say MOTU made me the only functioning member of my family but I'm not kidding.
He taught me that in a world where bad things happen that I have the power...
