Chapter 21

- Lottie getting the Portman job is supposed to be a scene that’s so exciting for her but it just kills me to think of Jamie wishing he could save Lottie from it

- And of course Lottie taking it as Jamie not thinking she’s good enough. He’s trying to protect you!!!

- Portmans are this big royal secret but making Lottie a Portman is basically giving up that secret forever because they all know she’s going to eventually have to be revealed as a Portman ??? Did that make sense

Chapter 22

- Can Lottie not get access to melatonin or something??

- Princess lessons!! Anyone else remember that rwch animatic of the Barbie song about being a princess? Did I hallucinate that?

- Raphael being Jamie’s first friend outside the castle is so important to me

Chapter 23

- I would do anything to go to the Rosewood library are you kidding me.

- Lottie immediately being jealous of Ellie getting along with Saskia, this girl is in love

- I feel like they make the not sleeping thing into a bigger deal than it is??? Lottie could’ve easily gotten some sleeping pills or something weeks ago and fixed it. Insomnia is common especially in students but to Ellie and Jamie this is the end of the world

i got very behind with the readathon and it’s officially over now but i present to you:

CHAP’S 19-EPILOGUE

tumblr ate all my notes from 19-32 bc i took a break for dinner which sucks bc it took ages but we’re just gonna go from here

and finally jamie gives into the fact that ellie is his friend

i won’t lie if i was sayuri i’d be pretty pissed that i couldn’t get through to haru, but jamie could

emelias like fuck all this mushy shit can we get back to saving the day

i can only see stella and sam as like micky and lola from up, but less happy

obsidian blade? but obsidian is so fragile, it would probably break under the pressure of a sword like lotties

though i suppose claude wasn’t expecting a sword to get in the way

ellie looked like an angel when she went to save lottie in up and now lottie looks like an angel saving ellie

Undercover Princess - Prologue

This is genuinely to this day, my favourite introduction to a series, to characters, to anything I've read. It captures the entire essence of the series in just 6 pages.

The opening paragraph alone captures how intensely this whimsy and wonder can impact a person or a space

Reading it at 14 years old, I decided right then that I was going to be one of those people who can make anyone believe in themselves and have the power to change and achieve anythign and everything

The cut to then Eleanor being the complete opposite, "in desperate need of both" is such a beautiful and simple way to bring the reader back to reality and introduce Ellie to us.

Shes passionate and determined and stubborn, but we also see how scared and desperate she is to have control in her own life without the pressure of her duty, something that is echoed everywhere in the series.

The lines surrounding Aston Court, reading with knowledge of what is to come has an air of heartbreak and despair that she would have to give up everything about who she is.

I adore the detail that she is only refered to as Eleanor thriughout this prologue, despite her mum calling Alexander 'Alex', Eleanor isn't given the same comfprt in a nickname, it's like she's always playing a role here.

The build up of how Alexander expects her to act, and how Eleanor would go kicking and screaming juxtaposed with 'Please Dad' not only affects her parents, but the reader too.

We become to familiar with her reputation as a wild child in the first few pages that already we have the same assumptions as we see later that the media has, only we get let into her vulnerability here.

I adore how much of this chapter is subtle foreshadowing, or a little wink nudge nudge to those of us who have already read the series, even this early on. But I won't lay it all out here right now.

The chapter ending in "we can always send in Jamie" always makes me laugh because yeah I guess but why didn't he just go anyway? I get not giving her freedom but surely thats easier to explain?

In summary, this prologue is genuinely one of my favourite parts to the book and I can't wait to read everyone else's thoughts throughout the readathon.

Undercover Princess - Chapter 12

This is so so fun i love this chapter it makes me so happy so if this is rambley im sorry

Her first letter to ollie is in their 2nd week there??? Im upset on his behalf

Can we also appreciate that we get to see them studying? That never happens. I really love these quieter moments where they really just get to be normal students for a bit

Also im on ellies side here, but i knew it as bodmas. Can someone from england (im assuming) tell me what BPRMDAS stands for. Whats the pr????

Binahs puzzle astounds me and i wanna know if connie did it herself? My theory is Evan Edinger helped make it.
