I admit, this isn't something I've thought a whole lot about. I don't think it's necessarily graves... Some pearl dialogue from Pebbles makes me think it's memory qualia! Maybe tombs as well, but I think mostly memories. Literally storing their memories, usually after death or Ascension. The Miros Birds would then be there to protect those memories, rather than bodies...
