Okay. But. AU where RVB is just a very badly run Halo-based tabletop gaming session. Like, the DM spends the first couple of meetings getting a handle on things because, like, he's never done this before, and the group seems really eager so just take it slow, but the group keeps trying to do all this crazy shit so he just decides "You know what? Fuck it." and does whatever. The entire thing is completely ridiculous and by the time the BGC finale comes along, they decide to just give up on the campaign altogether.
And so group disbands, and the former DM (he needs a name. Let's call him David) goes and joins a new campaign based on the same game system but run by a much better DM. It's a much better group, very well run, so when David gets a message from the person that used to play Tex, he recommends she joins the group. And she uses the same character sheet, because she likes Tex, okay? If it's not broke, don't fix it.
And so that campaign ends, and David gets a call from a couple of the guys because they kinda miss playing and can't manage to find a new DM that'll deal with them, which is fine. It's good. Because this time, David actually has a campaign in mind. It's sorta based off the campaign he and Tex worked in together, with some elements carrying over from BGC since he knows the guys aren't going to let go of their character sheets. So he calls the group back together (minus the guy who plays Tucker, because he's busy with stuff) and they play season 6. Even David, since he's carried over his old character from the other session. Eventually the guy who plays Tucker comes back in, and that's a thing, and David can't decide whether he wants to straight DM or play at the same time, but either way reconstruction happens and that's a thing.
Carolina's player comes in, because she's a friend of David and looking for a less serious session. And she comes up with a good backstory, so David's like "I have to use this. I have to." And the boys (i.e. Church) bitch and moan about her getting all the attention (still Church) but are secretly super interested in her story line (yet again Church).
And by the end of this one David is- he's pretty tired of DMing. He wants to just play as part of the party again, but he doesn't want to leave the group, and he doesn't know anyone else who can DM. He expresses this frustration to Carolina's player, and she's like "...I can do it. I can DM." So he hands it over to her, and that's where the Chorus arc starts.
