YOOO THIS IS LIKE CHRISTMAS TO ME

ok ok so, i have a whole bunch of scenarios for them in my head

1. ruth is very easy going, funny and open, and thatcher is pretty reserved and work-focused, i imagine him to be a bit of a loner. for him it began like one of those "getting a crush because the person shows you basic kindness" deals, but when they got closer, he realized that she is not all sunshine all the time and has her own issues, and he likes her on those days too. thats when stuff got real for him.

2. ruth likes to play harmless pranks on her coworkers, and especially on thatcher (thats her way of flirting), think jim from the office.

3. overall very grumpy/sunshine dynamic

4. they called each other by last names intil a near-death experience brought them closer (the canon event where ruth dies except in my version she lives obviously)

5. their first kiss happens the day after they both stay at the station for the whole night, reviewing a case and then just talking about stuff. they are alone in the break room and thatcher makes coffee for both of them casually like its his nature, and she just kisses him right there.

6. thatcher LOVES it when ruth plays with his hair. he could lay in her lap for hours whole she pets him like a cat.
