ORIGINAL CONTENT: The former Westinghouse transformer plant in Sharon PA. I think I took this photo the same day as the one from Sharon Steel I posted yesterday. 12,000 people used to work at this plant. During WWII they made torpedos for the Navy here and tested them at Pymatuming Lake. I’ve heard rumors of nuclear work then too but that might just be a rumor. I really wanted to photograph the concrete ribs that ran across the long section of the building. A buddy of mine from PA and I walked down Sharpsville Avenue to get the shot but I couldn’t get the angle I wanted. Too low. This was way before drones so we improvised. A guy across the street was working on his house and had a rickety 10’ wooden ladder leaned up against it. We get to talking to him, ask if we can borrow it and he says sure. Tried from the sidewalk-too close. We wound up setting it up in the middle of Sharpsville Ave which is a pretty busy street. My buddy, who unbeknownst to me had a big ol Dirty Harry .44 on him the whole time, directed traffic and I got the shot. Glad I did because it’s all repainted and white washed now. #therustjungle #steelvalley #sharonpa #westinghouse #rustbeltrevival (at Our Gang's Lounge) https://www.instagram.com/therustjungle/p/Bt8b2yoB7eB/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mfufbr3hr42l
