Jeremy Tobing : My 100k Journey with the Nike ZoomFly
Jeremy Tobing is just another well baked designer who loves branding, one of NRC Jakarta Pacers and love to run and share. These strides been running since 2013 and never thought that running will gave you a great company and a big connection to everything that you can’t imagine. So if you’re reading this, get your trainer and let’s start running, you’ll see it by yourself. Peace!
My first impression:
THIS IS SOMETHING NEW, TRUST ME! Been running with Nike Free and other Nike flat racers for my daily beater, and the ZoomFly is really something new. By the time I put this beast on and stand on it, the feel is not ordinary, I got the height and a flying heel feeling, like not touching the ground kinda. Arch got super hug and the toe box is roomy for my greek feet. Plus this colorway is really beastly, red and blue tone makes me ready to ride this errday. The super bonus is the stitched-flat-shoe lace, my fave!
My first k:
Complete stiff. Like running with extra heights, the thick-looking mid sole really feel awkward, and I know right away that this shoe will make me work harder to tame it and synchronize it with my strides. First set of stride is awesome, the transition from mid foot to fore foot really smooth and effortless. Toe-box is cozy and the heel locked perfectly.
My First 10 k:
Who will ever thought that this thick mid sole will be firmer than other racing flats? The ride is really awesome! But for some runners who usually runs with stable, cushion and supports; I think this shoe is not soft enough for them. One thing to take note : since my first K, the mid sole looked worn and got a lot of wrinkles especially on the mid sole and the heel area. Durability issues? We’ll see…
My mid-way (50k):
Halfway through, incredibly the rides got smoother and comfier. The strides got more fluid, making your running form perfect and you’ll feel like the #breaking2 pacers (lols)! Through the halfway mark, the “carbon injected nylon inner plate” got more and more smooth, really helps your run to fly, naturally.
After I completed my 100k:
Done through a NRC session, rushing with RUSHRUNNERS. Still in the break-in period, it feel like running with a brand new shoe with no distraction feeling. At this point, I’m not afraid about the durability issue anymore. The shoe hold well so far compared to my other running shoes. No issue with blisters, no issue with road-heat (Indonesian road is super hot), and lastly it’s super fun to run with this new type of shoe.
My thoughts:
Very-light-cushioned-performance-everyday-trainer! Nike did a good job creating a daily beater with speed. I reckon this is a best daily trainer, tempo speed, and a good to go to racing shoe. But for the race day, I reckon we need the 4%. Let this zoomfly makes you fly daily with your training, and leave the rest to 4%.. peace!
